The mid-life facelift for the 2024 Volkswagen ID.3 electric hatchback has been revealed ahead of a reported 2024 Australian launch. Just three years into its lifecycle, the ID.3 has been given a going over by Volkswagen for a cleaner look, new features and a revised interior for a higher quality effect. Following its twin-under-the-skin Cupra Born to Australia by around a year, the updated ID.3 uses a 150kW motor that’s fed by battery packs up to 77kWh in size.

The design has matured and the materials in the interior have been significantly upgraded. The new ID.3 demonstrates our clear commitment to quality, design and operability, and we have systematically taken on board the wishes of our customers.”
Externally, the facelifted ID.3 now has a body-coloured bonnet for a longer look, as well as revised bumpers and wheels for added drag co-efficiency and therefore greater range. The lighting has been revised for a fresh look – including a new scrolling effect for the indicators – while there are new colours as well, such as the ‘Dark Olivine Green’ colour on the pictured hero car.
Inside the ID.3 are where the majority of changes have occurred with revised software for the infotainment system for greater user-friendliness, higher-quality materials throughout the cabin and new features. The cabin’s materials are now softer and plusher for better quality, while the materials themselves are 71 per cent recycled and animal-free.
Attempting to fix the main criticism of the pre-facelifted ID.3, Volkswagen has given it a new infotainment system with a larger 12-inch touchscreen and new software aimed at making the infotainment system more accessible and easier to use. According to the company, the layout has become clearer, and the charging menu is now located on the first level of the touch display and there’s a new augmented reality heads-up display, which displays information 10 metres ahead of the vehicle.
Under the bonnet of the 2024 Volkswagen ID.3 is a 150kW/310Nm electric motor that drives the rear wheels. In Europe, battery sizes in either 58kWh or 77kWh are available for up to 550km of driving range on the WLTP cycle (Australian figures are yet to be confirmed). Charging speed has been increased to 170kW, up from the pre-facelifted car’s 125kW peak.
