Morris Garages, popularly known as MG, is a British automobile company that was founded in 1920 but eventually entered the Indian market in 2017. While the manufacturer is best known for its sports cars and coupes outside the country, MG currently only offers its SUVs in India – and they are some of the most popular options in the market. The reason behind this is that the SUV segment is the most “in demand” segment in the country right now. However, we could see other options entering the Indian market in the coming months from MG including a premium sedan and a powerful hatchback. Here are the upcoming MG cars in India for 2022/2023.
MODEL | EXPECTED PRICE |
MG G10 | Rs. 25.00 Lakh |
MG 3 | Rs. 6.00 Lakh |
MG Baojun 510 | Rs. 11.00 Lakh |
MG Marvel X | Rs. 30.00 Lakh |
MG RC-6 | Rs. 18.00 Lakh |
MG G10
Expected Launch | 10 May 2022 |
Engine | 2.0L Turbo-Petrol, 2.0L Diesel |
Transmission | 6-Speed Manual, 8-Speed Automatic |
The MG G10 was expected to be launched back in 2020 but the pandemic pushed its release back and it is finally ready to hit Indian roads in May. With the demand for large vehicles increasing steadily in India, the G10 MPV is destined to be a massive hit. Under the hood of the G10, MG has already stated that there will be either a 2.0L Turbo-petrol engine that produces 224Ps of power and 345Nm of torque or a 2.0L diesel engine that generates 163Ps of power and 375Nm of torque. In the transmission department, the G10 will come with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or automatic transmission options. The petrol-powered variant will get a 6-speed automatic while the diesel unit will be paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Some of the features that will come on the MG G10 include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 3-piece panoramic sunroof, power-sliding doors in the rear, a middle row with executive seats and fold-out leg rests, a power-adjustable seat for the driver, and automatic air-conditioning. The MG G10 is expected to come with a plethora of safety features such as ISOFIX Child Seat Anchors, ABS with EBD, multiple airbags, parking sensors, and seatbelts for the middle and rear seats.
MG 3
Expected Launch | 01 July 2022 |
Engine | 1.5L Petrol |
Transmission | 4-Speed Automatic |
While MG dominates the SUV segment in India right now, they could soon take over the hatchback market as well with the upcoming release of the MG 3. The MG 3 looks similar to the newly released Maruti Suzuki Swift – which is India’s best-selling hatchback – but is expected to be a lot more powerful. Under the hood, the MG 3 houses a 1.5L Direct Fuel Injection In-Line 4-cylinder petrol engine that is capable of generating 82Ps of power and 150Nm of torque which is quite impressive when compared to the other hatchbacks in the market. Mated to the engine is a 4-speed automatic transmission system with Front-Wheel-Drive capabilities. The hatchback is expected to come with some of the latest features on offer from MG including a touchscreen infotainment system, parking sensors, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, climate control, air-conditioning and heating, and multiple airbags.
MG Baojun 510
Expected Launch | 15 December 2022 |
Engine | 1.5L In-Line Petrol |
Transmission | 6-Speed Automatic |
With MG already making a name in the Indian market with the powerful Hector and Hector Plus SUVs, there is surely a promising future for the brand in the country. MG and Baojun are brands that fall under the SAIC umbrella which is why the Hector can be found under the name Baojun 530 in many countries outside India. Given the fact that they share so much, the Baojun 510 is designed almost identically to the Hector, however, it is a little smaller in size. Powering the Baojun 510 will be a 1.5L In-Line S-TEC III petrol engine that will generate 115Ps of power and 146Nm of torque. The SUV will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic gearbox as an option. Even though the Baojun 510 was first announced back in 2016, it is only just about to be released and launched in India. In terms of features, the Baojun 510 carries the same “Future Eye” LED DRLs found on the Hector which gives the car an aggressive look. There is also a twin-light arrangement of the headlamps which looks exactly like what is found on the Hector. Inside, the Baojun 510 features a dual-tone, black, and light-brown colour scheme which actually gives it a rich look. Safety is MG’s primary concern which is why the Baojun 510 comes with airbags in the front and side, a dynamic stability control system, ABS with EBD, and parking cameras in the rear. If technology is what you’re after, MG supplies a lot, and the Baojun 510 features it with style. There is an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, automatic climate control, push-button ignition, auto cruise, keyless entry, and a semi-open panoramic sunroof.
MG Marvel X
Expected Launch | 01 April 2023 |
Battery | 52.5kWh Lithium-Ion |
Expected Range | 400 Kms |
As we already discussed, the pandemic delayed a number of expected launches with the MG Marvel X being one of the most talked-about electric SUVs in the country. The Marvel X was showcased back in 2020 at the Auto Expo and was expected to be released in 2021. Now, finally, MG is ready to unleash their EV SUV to the awaiting public. The all-electric SUV will bring a Level-3 intelligent driving experience. There will be two variants of the Marvel X expected to launch in India including a Rear-Wheel-Drive and an All-Wheel-Drive option. The Marvel X will come with a 52.5kWh Lithium-Ion battery that will power two electric motors. Combined, the motors will be able to generate 184Ps of power. When the battery is completely charged, the Marvel X will be able to offer a range of up to 400 Kms. When charging the Marvel X with the regular AC charger, the battery takes up to 8.5 hours to go from 0 to 100 percent. However, when using the DC Fast Charger, the battery on the Marvel X is capable of going from 0 to 80 percent in a matter of 40 minutes. As we learn more about the Marvel X in the upcoming months, we will bring you more information right here.
MG RC-6
Expected Launch | 15 July 2023 |
Engine | 1.5L Turbocharged Petrol |
Transmission | 6-Speed Manual, CVT |
We are already familiar with the popularity of the SUV segment in India but the sedan segment isn’t too far behind either. That is exactly what MG saw and has decided to launch its RC-6 sedan in India in 2023. The RC-6 will enter a competitive market and will go up against sedans like Honda City, Hyundai Aura, and Hyundai Elantra. The RC-6 is expected to come to India with a 1.5L Turbocharged-petrol engine that is expected to generate 147Ps of power and 245Nm of torque. Mated to the engine should be a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard with an option of a CVT automatic transmission as well. In the features department, the MG RC-6 is expected to come with a panoramic sunroof, a dual touchscreen setup for the infotainment system and instrument cluster, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, real-time location sharing, leatherette touchpoints, voice commands, automatic air-conditioning, high-quality audio, contrasting stitches on the seats and upholstery, and remote lock/unlock. Not a lot is known about the India-bound RC-6 but we should see the sedan come with the standard safety features including multiple airbags, seatbelt alerts, door-ajar warning, parking sensors, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX Child Seat Mounts, and collision alert.
