2022 Volkswagen ID.5 GTX: what is it?
Coupe-styled SUVs are nothing new these days with everyone from BMW to Renault getting in on the act. Electric vehicles aren’t exempt from the curious combination, and so we have the Volkswagen ID.5 GTX.
The ID.5 is effectively a coupe variant of the ID.4 SUV. Think of a high-riding SUV, but give it a sloping rear end and a more sporting attitude. The GTX nameplate is what VW is going with for hot EVs for now, so we suspect that’s the exact same formula this prototype will follow when it makes production.
2022 Volkswagen ID.5 GTX: what is it powered by?
We suspect the Volkswagen ID.5 GTX will make use of the same powertrain as the ID.4 GTX on which it is based. You can likely count on a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that churns out around 295bhp. A 308-mile range comes thanks to a 77kWh battery.
The car will be able to charge at a maximum of 125kW, meaning that you can have an additional 186 miles of range in 30 minutes.
2022 Volkswagen ID.5 GTX: when will it be on sale?
Volkswagen is already officially teasing a camouflaged car in their marketing, so a reveal is imminent. We’d say early 2022 is a safe bet for Volkswagen’s latest electric car.
Cars should be with customers partway through next year.
2022 Volkswagen ID.5 GTX: how much will it cost?
There’s no official word on pricing before the GTX’s big reveal, but it is expected to cost around £45,000.
While a performance model, some capabilities such as charging lag behind rivals, so there may be better value to be found elsewhere. That said, if you want the most potent ID out there, you won’t have long to wait.
