Based on market feedback and customer response, Toyota has updated the popular Hilux Raider and Legend model ranges with additional standard features.
A six-speed manual, rear-wheel-drive Hilux Legend RS trim has also been added to the line-up, at a price of R835,100.
Legend updates
Previously, only the Legend 4×4 Auto models received Toyota’s full-house treatment, which includes a leather interior, JBL sound system, and Toyota Safety Sense driver-assist system.
For 2021, the leather interior and Safety Sense features are now standard across the entire range, while dual-zone climate control and “enhanced smart entry” have also been added at no additional cost.
The JBL sound system is still reserved only for the 4×4 Legend models.
The Toyota Safety Sense option comprises lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and a pre-crash system that alerts you when there is an obstacle in the path of the bakkie and applies braking pressure automatically if needed.
The Legend Xtra Cab is now fitted with a power-adjustable driver seat as standard, too.
Raider updates
The mid-range Hilux Raider models were also updated to offer a “balance between utility, comfort, and convenience”.
Across all Raider variants, you now get an alloy spare wheel, height-adjustable driver seat, and meter illumination control.
The 2.4-litre Double Cab Raider models are then fitted with a 60/40 rear split seat, a rear armrest with cupholders, and seatback pockets with shopping hooks.
In addition, the 2.8-litre Double Cab Raider is treated to dual-zone climate control as standard.
What’s new
Due to the standard inclusion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across all models fitted with an audio system, Toyota has decided to remove the onboard satellite navigation system that was previously offered as an optional extra.
This feature has been removed “in lieu of customers using smartphone apps such as Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Waze,” said Toyota.
Two new colour options were added to the range as well, namely Platinum White Pearl and a limited run of Sand Beige units that will only be produced between October and December 2021.
Price
Pricing for the Toyota Hilux range remains unchanged.
39 Toyota Hilux models are now on offer in South Africa, at a starting price of R301,200 – going up to R882,400.
