When you hear the words Audi A4, chances are a nice-sounding engine isn't what immediately comes to mind. A4s are nice cars, sure, but I've never heard one that sounded anything other than ordinary. Except for this one, that is.
This A4 is a genuine factory-built STW (Super Tourenwagen) that competed in Touring Car championships throughout Europe starting in 1998. Being a 1998 model, it sent all of its power to the front wheels following a ban of four-wheel-drive from the sport that year after the car dominated earlier in the Nineties, taking multiple championships with its now-iconic Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
After the car was retired from its factory duties it went to compete in Sweden before starting its life as a dominant hillclimb car. The 300-horsepower 2.0-liter naturally aspirated inline-four sounds as fantastic as it did new, able to rev to a phenomenal 8750 rpm.
The Hillclimb Monsters YouTube channel caught this A4 flying up the hill at a recent event in Skradin, a coastal town in southern Croatia, even managing to snag some onboard footage for us to enjoy. Please make sure to have the volume turned up. You won't want to miss the intake noise coming from this thing.
