The Ferrari Enzo is not your standard Ferrari. In fact, it’s about as far from standard as it gets. Named after the car company’s founder, the Enzo is a super limited hypercar that runs somewhere in the neighborhood of $3 million. This particular car was trashed after losing control during what appears to have been a test drive. Yikes.

How many Ferrari Enzos are there?
According to MotorTrend, from 2002-2004, Ferrari only made 40 production examples of the Ferrari Enzo. In reality, the full number of Enzos ever made are 493. Given its rarity and the fact that the carbon-fiber monocoque wasn’t damaged, this will undoubtedly be put back together in some capacity. Although it may be salvageable, the damage was extensive.
CarScoops says that this Enzo drama happened in the Netherlands last Tuesday morning, allegedly during a test drive. The damage looks pretty extensive. A witness saw the Ferrari Enzo moving at high speed when the driver lost control of the hypercar, sending it spinning before ending up on a tree. Two wheels were snapped off, many body panels were crunched, and all airbags deployed. Thankfully, the monocoque and V12 are reported to be ok. And, of course, the driver is said to have made it out of the pricey crash with minimal injuries.

Typically, the dealership’s insurance will cover the costs of any test drive damage. However, if the crash is your fault, the dealer may expect you to cover the cost or claim it on your insurance.
Ferrari has yet to confirm that this Enzo was on a test drive. However, a local photographer who was on the scene at the time said that he saw a Ferrari employee in the car, suggesting that it was indeed a test drive or possibly something Ferrari-related.
Other rumors suggest it was a Ferrari mechanic who was at the wheel. This is only speculation because Kroymans Ferrari spokesperson refused to comment on the incident. Lastly, the Enzo also had the dealer’s name on the plate at the time of the crash, which was quickly removed before the Ferarri was loaded on the tow truck.
What is so special about the Ferrari Enzo?
Aside from the limited production and extremely high price tag, the Enzo was meant to be a love letter to the founder and history of the company. It’s rare, beautiful, expensive, oh, and it’s fast as hell.
The Ferrari Enzo sports a middle-mounted naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V12 kicking out 651 horsepower and 485 lb-ft of torque, all channeled to the rear wheels via a six-speed automated manual transmission. All that engine and transmission get the Ferrari Enzo from 0-60 mph in just a hair over 3 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph. These specs are still red hot today, but remember, this car came out nearly 20 years ago.
Everything about the Ferrari Enzo is extreme; it’s extremely beautiful, extremely fast, extremely expensive, and in this case, extremely broken. If it was a Ferrari employee on a test drive, then let’s hope that person could defend the situation and keep their job and possible payback of a few million dollars.
