The massive conglomerate of technology and industrial companies that is Tata has officially put one of the world’s cheapest conventional body style EVs on sale in the market today. To be offered solely in India, for now, the Tata Tiago doesn’t have performance figures to set the world alight but it comes with a cost price that is highly competitive for just about anything else it competes against.
Available in a variety of trims and two available battery packages, pricing on the Tata Tiago starts at around R185 000 when converted from Rupees. This makes it highly affordable and accessible to the general public.

The zero-emissions model is available in entry-level XE trim which offers a 19,2 kWh battery capacity that can go up to 250 km per charge. Further down the specifications list are the more expensive XT, XZ+, XZ+ Tech LUX models which come with a 24 kWh battery. This pushes overall range up to 315 km with measurements done by the Modified Indian Driving Cycle (MIDC).The XZ+ and XZ+ Tech LUX derivatives are equipped with either 3,3 AC or 7,2 kW AC onboard charging which means they can achieve 110 km of range in 30 minutes.
Powering the front wheels is a small permanent magnet synchronous electric motor which offers modest performance. 55 kW and 114 N.m won’t be enough to demand driver engagement but it will do just fine for daily commuting.
