Mzansi motorists wanting to pick up JAC’s new T9 bakkie will need to earn at least R60,000 per month to buy one on a finance plan, according to a calculation by TopAuto.
The T9 is the company’s new headline model and is currently available in four trim levels, with prices ranging from R529,900 to R649,900.
While additional powertrains are scheduled to be added to the line-up next year, the launch models are exclusively equipped with a 2.0-litre, turbocharged diesel block with 125kW and 410Nm.
Combined with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and either a rear-wheel or four-wheel-drive system, the JAC will manage a fuel consumption of 7.8l/100km.
The Chinese double cab also boasts a ground clearance of 210mm, a load capacity of 1,000kg, and a towing capacity of 3,500kg. It’s approach, break-over, and departure angles are rated at 27.0, 23.5, and 23.0 degrees, respectively.
Looking at its spec sheet, buyers will have access to automatic xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, tyre-pressure monitoring, rain-sensing wipers, leather upholstery, a multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, hill assist, keyless entry and start, automatic climate control, USB ports, a 10.4-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, front and rear parking sensors, an all-round camera system, and a 7.0-inch digital driver display.
What you need to earn
We can use the following formula to work out the monthly payments on the new JAC:
- Car price – R529,900/R649,900
- Payment term – 60 terms (5 years)
- Interest – 11.75%
- Deposit – 0%
- Balloon – No balloon payment
- Extras – No optional extras
According to this, buyers will need to pay at least R11,816 per month for the base model, and up to R14,470 per month for the range-topping 4×4.
Financial experts then recommend that you do not spend more than 20% of your gross monthly salary on vehicle payments.
This means you’ll need to earn anywhere from R59,080 per month to R72,250 per month to afford the JAC T9.
Note that this figure does not account for insurance, fuel, and maintenance, which all need to be factored into your budget.
