Every Porsche has that unique ability to deliver power, dynamism and luxury, but the Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition takes it to another level
SINGAPORE
When the first Porsche Cayenne was unveiled to the world in 2002, people stood up and gaped. It was a dramatic expansion of ability by the German carmaker that had up to then been known as a specialist builder of stunningly accomplished sports cars. Here now was the world’s first large, luxurious, and properly sporty, powerful, SUV.
Three generations later, the Porsche Cayenne is still the benchmark model when it comes to sporty SUVs that can keep up with smaller sports cars, despite its commanding 4.9-metre length. Featuring all-wheel drive and a 3.0-litre, turbocharged V6 engine with 340 horsepower, it’s got all the hallmarks of a luxury sports car with the presence and practicality of an SUV.
What’s big news is that the Porsche Cayenne is now available in a limited edition, Platinum Edition. Models that are labelled with the Platinum Edition badge feature unique, exclusive trim options fitted as standard, making your chosen Porsche Cayenne stand out from the rest of the pack.
It starts from the ground up, with the Cayenne Platinum Edition riding on 21-inch Cayenne Turbo Design wheels in Satin Platinum for a powerful road presence.
The car’s subtly intimidating look is enhanced with the Extended Exterior Package in Black, which gives the window trims, and exhaust tailpipes a high-gloss black finish.
Additional exclusive coordinated design elements including the inlays in the slats of the front air intakes, the Porsche lettering integrated in the LED rear light strip, and the model designation at the rear painted in satin-finish Platinum add to the Cayenne Platinum Edition’s darkly commanding look.
It is contrasted with the very bright Porsche Dynamic Light System, or PDLS, that enhances illumination by adjusting the range of the dipped beam according to driving speed. PDLS also has a dynamic cornering light function that rotates the headlights towards the inside of a road’s curve based on the driver’s speed and steering angle.
It’s a big visual step up from the standard Porsche Cayenne, and that’s just on the outside.
Open the door to find the engraved Platinum Edition aluminium door entry guards welcoming you into the car, where the cabin can be specified in a selection of colours including the outstanding two-tone Black and Mojave Beige option. The seat headrests feature embossed Porsche Crests on the front and rear headrests.
The cockpit is classic Porsche dynamism, with the analog clock taking pride of place on the centre of the dashboard, and the purposeful tachometer being the main dial in the centre of the instrument cluster. Smartphone connectivity, a sophisticated user interface that’s paired with a Bose surround sound system, plus customisable interior ambient lighting adds to the upscale experience.
The attention to detail extends as far as the seat belts; on the Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition, they are in a special Crayon Gray colour.
Overhead, a large panoramic sunroof that can be opened to the sky adds to the car’s luxury feel. The boot meanwhile, has a carrying capacity of 772 litres, and is expandable to a massive 1,708 litres after folding the rear seat bench down. It has plenty of room inside for five occupants, and the powerful presence of a Sport Utility Vehicle. Furthermore, it’s actually capable of off-road driving with its all-wheel drive configuration, but in true Porsche tradition it’s also a sports car at heart.
With 340 horses under the bonnet and six cylinders being fed by a turbocharger, the Porsche Cayenne can do relaxed cruising as well as carve up curves without any trouble. The smart traction control and stability assist systems help to progressively release the 450 Newton-metres of torque from the engine to let the car punch out of corners with authority and precision.
The smooth-shifting eight-speed transmission quickly gets you up to speed, and has a tall top gear to help to give it great fuel economy at highway cruising speeds, but also rockets the car from a standing start to 100km/h in 6.0 seconds. It has a rated top speed of 245km/h, in case you were wondering about that.
The Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition carries a sticker price of S$407,388 without COE, and is available in strictly limited numbers. Composed with passion, it’s the ultimate expression of the sporting automotive personality. See it now at the Porsche NOW Pop-Up at Guoco Tower.
