Golf R specs
The new R is the flagship model in the Golf line-up and sports a 2.0-litre, turbocharged motor creating 235kW and 400Nm.
In contrast to the GTI which only turns the front wheels, the R delivers power to all four tyres via standard fitment of the 4Motion system, and it gets an electronic differential lock and adaptive chassis control to hone its abilities.
Paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission, this VW jets to 100km/h in a rapid 4.8 seconds and manages to reach a top speed of 250km/h, and if the Black Performance Pack is installed, it gets up to 270km/h and also brings a Drift Mode.
Inside, the top-of-the-line Golf receives a wireless charger, keyless entry and start, R-specific Nappa leather seats, a leather multifunction steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and the Discover Pro infotainment system comprising a 10.25-inch gauge cluster flanked by a 10.25-inch media screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voice control, and satellite navigation.
Additionally, buyers can expect electric tailgate operation and automatic LED lights with high-beam assist to form part of the standard package, as well as 19-inch Estoril wheels in silver.
