The new BMW iX3 is the first fully electrically powered BMW X model. The iX3 combines locally emission-free driving pleasure with BMW’s legendary sporting ability.
The first-ever BMW iX3’s forward-thinking personality stems from a unique combination of its electric motor’s efficiency, the optimised energy density of its high-voltage battery and its high charging capacity. This is the result of the brand’s many years of unwavering development work in the field of electric mobility.
For the first time, the BMW X3 will be available with a high-efficiency gasoline engine, plug-in hybrid system, or pure-electric drive system. The iX3 embodies the company’s strategic “Power of Choice” approach to meeting a wide range of customer requirements and statutory regulations around the world.
Electric Drivetrain
BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive technology is the latest offering introduced to the all-new BMW iX3. It features the updated electric motor, power electronics, charging technology and the high-voltage battery. All of which promise higher performance, power consumption and range.
BMW eDrive technology has advanced beyond market competitors and provides an excellent foundation for economically sustainable applications in volume production models.
The BMW iX3 has a gross energy content of 80 kWh – of which 74 kWh is utilised, offering improved driving efficiency, with a range of up to 459 kilometres in the WLTP test cycle.
It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, matching the conventionally powered BMW X3 xDrive30i. The new drive system unit has a peak torque of 400 Nm and a maximum output of 210 kW/286 hp, unlike many other electric motors, which is sustained at high revs.
Battery and Charging
One of the new technical features debuting under the banner of the fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology is an innovative charging unit that sends power to both the 400V battery and the 12V onboard power supply.
Plugging the vehicle into a direct current fast-charging station facilitates charging outputs of up to 150 kW, allowing the BMW iX3 to be charged from 0 to 80 per cent of its full capacity in 34 minutes. It adds 100 kilometres to the car’s driving range (in the WLTP cycle) in 10 minutes of charging.
The BMW I Wallbox Plus and a basic installation package come as standard exclusively for BMW iX3 customers. In addition, the first-ever BMW iX3 is compatible with all Type 2 public charging stations that are available across the island.
ChargeNow, a mobility service by BMW i, gives drivers access to one of the largest networks of public charging stations located in various office buildings, shopping malls, hotels and industrial parks in Singapore by using the BMW i ChargeNow card.
Exterior
The first-ever BMW iX3 is designed to demonstrate the BMW X models’ robust premium character and all-around abilities. Model-specific design elements improve the car’s aerodynamic properties while expressing the car’s sustainability-focused drive concept visually.
The new aerodynamic wheels are captivating at first glance. It is intentionally designed to reduce the drag coefficient by around 5% over an equivalent vehicle with conventional light-alloy wheels.
This is accomplished through the use of sophisticated inserts in the V-spoke base wheel which surfaces keep the air flowing far more smoothly
Interior
The new iX3’s exterior and interior have subtle blue accents that hint at the presence of its electric drive system.
The premium interior ambience typical of an SAV is created by high-quality materials and stylishly designed surfaces.
This includes a sports steering wheel, heated driver’s seats with memory function, and a three-zone automatic climate control system powered by a heat pump.
A Comfort Access package is also available, including ambient lighting, Vernasca leather trim, and front sports seats with lumbar support for the driver.
Thanks to the 40:20:40 split/folding rear seat backrest, load capacity of the iX3 can be increased from 510 to a maximum of 1,560 litres by folding the rear seat backrest.
The new BMW iX3 comes with BMW Live Cockpit Professional onboard. The navigation system has been optimised, including wireless smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto preparation.
Harman Kardon surround sound system and BMW gesture control is also included.
Features
The BMW iX3 comes ready with a plethora of features.
The BMW Brake Energy Regeneration system is intended to boost efficiency and comfort while driving. Data from the navigation system and driver assistance system sensors adjust the brake energy regeneration intensity to the road situation.
The BMW iX3 also features BMW IconicSounds Electric, which provides acoustic feedback to enhance the electric driving experience by adding emotional depth. The drive sound is an original work by BMW’s sound designers and acoustic engineers, and it comes as standard with the car.
