“To properly honour him required us to build a car that was truly born to run. Our new Carroll Shelby Centennial Edition Mustang is a well-balanced car that is far more than just a horsepower upgrade. We sharpened the handling and enhanced the styling of the world-class 5.0-litre V8 Mustang GT. It delivers all the performance that Carroll required to have his name on a car.” —Vince LaViolette, Shelby American Vice President of Operations and Chief of R&D

To celebrate the legacy of one of Ford’s key players, Shelby unveiled a 593 kW supercharged Mustang GT positioned and prepped as a homage to the venerated automotive designer. As is the case with many special edition models, the Carroll Shelby Centennial Edition Mustang GT features an array of bespoke changes and additions that differentiate it from regular models. Some notable features that help the Centennial Edition stand out from its stablemates range from a Whipple supercharger, improved cooling hardware, a Borla exhaust system and a R2,8 million price tag.

To sweeten the deal, each unit sold will contribute to a charity donation to the Carroll Shelby Foundation. Potential Centennial Edition owners will be inducted into Ford’s Team Shelby Club. Three of these highly collectable Mustangs have been confirmed for South Africa, who says we don’t get cool things? No confirmation on when the models will be expected to arrive on our shores was provided however it would likely be before the close of the year.
