The X6 M Competition is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4,4-litre V8 engine accompanied by BMW’s 48V mild-hybrid technology and affords the Bavarian bull dog with visceral power packaged in the firm’s modern performance SUV offerings. The electric motor, complete with power electronics, is integrated into the compact housing of the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and delivers an additional 9 kW of power and 200 N.m of torque. The result is noticeably more rapid power delivery, enabling the drive unit to respond to every movement of the accelerator. The build-up of power then continues steadily into the highest reaches of the engine speed range.

Under the hood, there’s a new 4,4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that spits out the same amount of power as the outgoing engine, producing 460 kW of power at 6000rpm and 750 N.m of torque between 1 800 and 5 800 r/min. BMW says the new eight-speed auto has a sharper shift action, the steering has been retuned and there’s a “newly adapted” version of the rear-biased M xDrive all-wheel drive system. In the styling department the M-badged SUVs adopt the slimmer LED headlights and the X-shaped LED taillight graphics as with the lesser variants but combine them with version-specific body kits and larger diameter alloy wheels, 21-inch in the front and 22-inch rear wheels.

The revised kidney grille, the XM-inspired trim that connects it with the lower bumper intake, front splitter, quad exhaust pipes and diffuser are all finished in black, as with the badges. The colour palette has been expanded with the new Brooklyn Grey metallic, Isle of Man Green metallic, and Frozen Pure Grey metallic shades, alongside 50 special colours from BMW Individual.
