Audi's S6 slots in between the regular, run-of-the-mill A6 and the track-ready RS6. It's a high-performance sedan that doesn't compromise on luxury or comfort.
The Audi S6 has been around since the early 90s when it built on the success of the turbocharged Audi 5000 (which we knew in South Africa as the Audi 500). Since then, it’s become synonymous with the performance sedan, taking on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series.
Since that introduction in 1994, there have been five different versions, each one featuring a different engine configuration.
Audi S6 C4 from 1994 to 1997
This model was powered by the famous 2.2-litre, 20-valve, inline 5-cylinder producing 169 kW and 326 Nm for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 6.7-seconds.
Audi S6 C5 from 1999 to 2003
The C5 stepped things up by using a 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 that produced 250 kW and 420 Nm torque. This made it good for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 5.7-seconds.
Audi S6 C6 from 2006 to 2011
Taking it even further is the C6 S6 which was powered by a colossal 5.2-litre V10 to produce 320 kW and 540 Nm torque. This meant that it would go from 0 to 100 km/h in only 5.2-seconds.
Audi S6 C7 from 2012 to 2018
Things got a little smaller again with the C7 Audi S6 which used a 4.0-litre V8. This one benefited from forced induction and the twin turbos meant that it churned out 309 kW and 550 Nm up until 2016 when the power was bumped up to 331 kW.
Audi S6 C8 from 2019 to present
The current generation has downscaled again but only in terms of displacement and cylinders. The C8 is powered by a 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo but it is the most powerful S6 ever created, producing 331 kW and 600 Nm for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of only 4.4-seconds.
