You’ll find quite a few entry-level luxury cars on the market, and the 2022 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is among the best. It’s one of the most affordable new BMWs, and the standard features aren’t lacking. So, what’s so great about the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé that earned it a coveted Consumer Reports recommendation while rivals didn’t make the cut?
Consumer Reports gave the 2022 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé high scores

The 2022 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé isn’t the best the German automaker offers, but it’s a great entry-level luxury sedan for drivers on a budget. The MSRP ranges from about $35,700 to $45,500.
Consumer Reports gave the 2 Series Gran Coupé an overall 71 out of 100. The road test score is 75, the predicted reliability is 3 out of 5, and the predicted owner satisfaction is 4 out of 5.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé offers serious power
If you want a fast car, skip the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. It takes a full 7.2 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. That acceleration might’ve been acceptable 15 years ago, but it’s lackluster now.
However, the 2 Series makes up for that drawback. The 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine generates 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It pairs with an eight-speed manual or automatic transmission. The car rides smoothly enough and can be a blast to drive while traveling on curvy roads.
The emergency handling is a little subpar, and Consumer Reports felt like it could be better. That said, it’s important to remember the 2 Series is an entry-level luxury car, so it isn’t top-of-the-line.
But it gets 27 mpg overall, which is pretty good. It doesn’t compare to a hybrid, but it far surpasses the gas mileage of most SUVs.
Consumer Reports offers plenty of praise for the front seats, which feel comfortable. But the backseat, not so much. It’s OK for children, but it’s a no-go for adults. Anyone of average height might feel their head hitting the roof, and taller individuals will feel like they have to hunch.
It comes with a decent number of standard features

While there isn’t a vast array of standard features, there are enough to keep the 2022 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé worth the price. Forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and lane departure warning all come standard.
Other standard features include a 10.3-inch reconfigurable digital gauge display and a dashboard-mounted 10.3-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Navigation, and SiriusXM Satellite Radio also come standard. But if you want the wireless smartphone-charging pad and Harman Kardon stereo system, you’ll have to upgrade.
What is surprising is that a spare tire doesn’t come standard. Instead, BMW offers a run-flat tire, allowing you to continue driving if your tire is punctured. That doesn’t mean you can go for miles without changing the tire, but it buys you time until you can pull over.
So, is the 2022 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé with it? If you’re interested in an entry-level luxury car, yes. It earns its recommendation from Consumer Reports. However, you might be happier upgrading to another luxury sedan or going with a cheaper mainstream model.
