Ford Performance has taken advantage of the hype surrounding the new Twitter-rivaling Threads to present a teaser of the upcoming Mustang Dark Horse R. The teaser photo didn't reveal much besides what the performance division already disclosed about the new race-focused variant.
The Ford Mustang Dark Horse R is one of the six motorsport-spec variants of the S650 generation. The Mustang GT4, Mustang GT3, and Mustang GT Supercar currently populate the list.
While the Mustang Dark Horse S, a stripped-down race-ready version of the road-going Mustang Dark Horse, is developed for the “weekend track day enthusiasts,” the Mustang Dark Horse R builds on the Dark Horse S' specifications, but with the addition of more performance-ready modifications.

Specs-wise, the Mustang Dark Horse R gets hood pins, front and rear tow hooks, a full exhaust system with four tips, and an adjustable rear wing, as seen in the recent teaser photo. The vehicle has an FIA-compliant roll cage, a quick-release steering wheel, and a fire suppression system.
Exclusive to the upcoming race-ready variant is a fuel cell for increased range, seam welding, and Ford Performance Parts wheels, which are matched with an upgraded brake system to “meet track demands.”
Under the hood is a 5.0-liter Coyote-based V8 engine, which makes 500 horsepower in the standard Mustang Dark Horse.
It is still unclear whether the new Mustang Dark Horse R will receive a power bump. After all, Ford Performance said the model was developed for racing.
What we know is Ford used a 200-mph Rolling Road Wind Tunnel to develop the aerodynamics of the Mustang Dark Horse like a supercar. This can improve the pony car's lap times, considering horsepower isn't everything to stay at the front of the grid.
The teaser photo may not have provided noteworthy details, but at least we now know that the Mustang Dark Horse R is scheduled to arrive on July 27.
