The Indian energy supplier Tata Power has announced the development of a nationwide charging network in India. Around 25,000 charging points are to be installed over the next five years. The charging infrastructure will be monitored from Mumbai.

Tata Power does not provide any explicit information on the targeted charging capacities of the planned network. The new charging stations will complement Tata Power’s existing charging network. According to the company, this consists of more than 3,600 public and semi-public charging points in over 450 Indian cities as well as over 23,500 chargers in private households.

The company is part of the Tata conglomerate, has its headquarters in Mumbai and is represented in the entire energy value chain, according to its own information. In the charging infrastructure sector, the energy company aims to provide charging solutions for electric vehicles in every corner of the country. This is expected to range from charging solutions for individuals, businesses, fleets and public places to charging facilities for e-buses.

Currently, Tata Power is active with its chargers primarily in and around Mumbai, Goa, Surat, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Pune and Bengaluru. The charging initiative is in line with the Indian government’s National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP), says Tata Power. This aims to develop an electric vehicle charging infrastructure that uses the latest technological platform and provides easy access to electric vehicle charging stations.

To operate the future network, the company plans to set up a Network Operations Centre in Mumbai. From there, the charging infrastructure will be monitored in real time.
