charging infrastructure, fleets, innovation centre, portsmouth, zenobe energy, new zenobe centre lets fleet operators test charging solutions

British fleet charging specialist Zenobē has just opened its “Innovation Centre” in Portsmouth. The company will test the latest EV charging solutions within a technology-agnostic setting to identify the best charging solutions for fleet operators.

The Centre, set in the Railway Triangle Industrial Estate in the southern English town, can simulate depot charging with multiple buses and electric cars. Installations can include a Powerskid, a 100kW battery storage made from second-life batteries, which Zenobē has been utilising. The buffer will enable the company to assess how V2G charging and grid services may help fleet operators to scale up.

The Innovation Centre will also trial and interface different chargers and electric vehicle models to provide valuable insight into the relationship between the pieces of hardware.

Zenobē says it has also integrated its fleet charging software into the testing, taking into account real-world, site-specific challenges such as grid limitations and battery degradation and how these can be managed.

“By investigating and testing the software and charging infrastructure within the Innovation Centre environment, Zenobē will further expand its extensive fleet electrification capabilities and knowledge base,” so the statement.

In other words, it will help the company to prepare and manage real-life installations such as the bus depots for Arriva, a Zenobē client. The company helped the bus operator choose and install Hitachi Energy’s Grid-eMotion Fleet system to charge 22 electric buses at a South London depot.

“The Innovation Centre is an evolution of our service offering and will ensure we give even better service to our customers in two ways – by testing components, chargers and other equipment continuously and by enabling us to commission and integrate equipment before anything arrives on site ensuring a smooth customer experience during this important but sometimes overwhelming transition to zero-emission fleets,” said Steven Meersman, Founder Director at Zenobē.

Operators interested in electrifying their fleet can now book a visit to see the real-time benefits of integrating innovative charging technology into their fleet, says Zenobē. The company also has fleet experts on-site for further advice.

Zenobē is headquartered in the UK with operations in Europe and Australasia. It has around 25% market share of the UK EV bus sector and 580 electric vehicles contracted globally. The company also owns and operates electric buses in the UK, Australia and New Zealand while offering second-life battery storage and the above fleet consultancy services.
