The MG ZS crossover is the company’s biggest selling car by some distance, mainly because it offers just about the most space-per-pound this side of a Dacia. And now it’s a little bit better thanks to a mid-life update – a surprisingly early one, given the car’s been on sale for just over two years in the UK.
Still, it’s comprehensive and includes a dramatically improved interior, which is now focused on a larger and clearer ‘floating’ touchscreen. The dashboard materials have been improved too, we’re told. Upper level models see the most change, with ‘Exclusive’ versions getting a fully digital instrument panel, a reversing camera, heated front seats and blind spot monitoring.
All versions get full-LED headlights now, power folding mirrors and a front armrest. Two trim levels are available, called Excite and Exclusive, with prices starting at £15,495 for the former.
Styling revisions are as you’d expect for a midlife facelift. The grille, headlamps and bumpers are reshaped, as are the taillights, and there’s less black plastic in general. The alloy wheels are redesigned.
To start with it’s only available with a manual gearbox, but an automatic will come on sale later this year. Just the one engine, a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol with 105bhp, returning 41.1mpg and 155g/km CO2 according to the WLTP cycle. It’s good for a 10.9-second 0-62mph sprint.
An enthusiastic Daniel Gregorious, MG Motor’s head of sales and marketing, said: “With an exciting new look, great new technology and a quality new interior, New MG ZS takes our B-SUV to the next level.
“The fact that we’ve managed to do all this and still enhance the value proposition is staggering, and I would like to pay tribute to everyone within our business who worked so hard to make it possible. We know that existing MG customers will want to visit our showrooms to find out more, and new customers will be attracted by this great new package.”
