Remember the Barkleys? That beautifully lovable family of furry retrievers who travel to-and-fro in their family Subaru and encounter other pups along the way? Yeah, we have to admit, they’re pretty irresistible. Subaru of America’s love for dogs extends beyond a marketing campaign that tugs at the heartstrings and converts Subaru nay-sayers into believers, though. An adoption campaign called Subaru Loves Pets has been tremendously effective at placing shelter animals into loving homes.
During October 2021’s Subaru Loves Pets month, more than 36,000 shelter pets—including hard-to-adopt “underdogs” with special needs and other various challenges—found forever homes. Over the course of the campaign’s two years, nearly 60,000 shelter animals have been adopted. Furthermore, to date, Subaru has helped with the adoption of nearly 350,000 animals.
The overwhelming success of the October 2021 nationwide campaign was a combined effort between Subaru of America, partner animal shelters, and more than 600 Subaru retailers, which held in-person or virtual adoption events during the month of October. In addition to the adoption events, Subaru retailers donated nearly $1.64 million to local animal shelters.
The internet—and Subaru itself—attest that Subaru owners love dogs and cats, to the degree that we found a whole “pets” department in the Subaru Gear section of the website. Subaru-branded bowls, leashes, collars, beds, mats, bandanas, bottles, care kits, safety lights, dog bag dispensers, and toys caught our eye, but the handsome bow tie takes the win. There are also a bunch of pet-friendly accessories for your pet-carrying Subaru: collapsible kennels, license plate frames, harnesses, beds, ramps, upholstery protectors, and bowls, for example. It’s like Subaru knows your pooch is part of the family.
