Subaru Singapore announces new BRZ sports coupe at S$120,800 without COE, or around S$200k with COE
SINGAPORE – Subaru has announced initial pricing for the new version of its BRZ sports coupe in Singapore at S$120,800 without COE for the six-speed manual option, and S$130,800 for the version with a six-speed automatic transmission. With a Category B COE now around S$80k, that makes the car S$200k out the door. But it’s actually cheaper than before, as you’ll find out. While it’s still based heavily on the first-gen BRZ, the car has new technology, a new engine, and is totally restyled. A 2.4-litre horizontally-opposed engine generates 234hp and 250Nm of torque – a notable addition as the first-gen car’s key criticism was a lack of horsepower (around 200hp). The manual version has a fuel consumption of 7.8L/100km, while the automatic version clocks in at 7.1L/100km.
Driving equipment include a Torsen limited-slip differential, a Track mode for its ESP, and Subaru’s EyeSight safety assist technology. Subaru says the car will come with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
2022 Toyota GR86
The front-engine, rear-wheel drive coupe was also co-developed alongside the Toyota 86. As now, the new Toyota GR86 will also launch in Singapore this year, with very similar specs/performance figures.
First-gen Subaru BRZ
But what’s this about it being cheaper? Well, in 2012 the car was also priced at around S$200,000 with COE – that was when the Cat B COE price was also around S$90k. So despite inflation, and a higher COE price, the BRZ is arguably ‘cheaper’ now than when it was first debuted in Singapore.
