Japanese automaker Subaru has officially opened US reservations for its first all-electric SUV, the 2023 Solterra, which will require a refundable reservation fee of $US250 ahead of deliveries expected to begin in the northern Summer.
Subaru teased the Solterra in September of last year and debuted the all-electric SUV in November. Available in overseas markets in both all-wheel and front-wheel drive, the Solterra will boast an estimated driving range of 530-kilometres for the former and around 460-kilometres for the latter thanks to a 71.4kWh battery.
Built on the dedicated all-electric platform developed in partnership with fellow Japanese carmaker Toyota, the Solterra is therefore much the same as the Toyota BZ4X.
Subaru of America announced on Tuesday the opening of reservations for the 2023 Solterra, which will need only a refundable reservation fee of $US250.
Orders will be finalised with the customer’s closest Subaru retailer sometime between April and May – with pricing, availability, and financing to be confirmed – and deliveries are expected to begin in the northern Summer of 2022.
Set to be available across all 50 US states, the $250 reservation fee nevertheless does not guarantee that a Solterra will be available, due to limited availability.

Customers looking to reserve their Solterra will need to pick their local Subaru retailer then select from 3 trim options – Premium, Limited, and Touring, with the Touring trim option featuring the longest list of optional extras – and colour.
Subaru also announced alongside the opening of reservations that it was partnering with EVgo – the largest public fast-charging network in the United States and the first public EV fast-charging network in the US to be powered entirely by renewable energy – to provide Solterra customers access to their network of 46,000 charging locations.
“EVgo has a long history of working with automakers leading the charge on EVs, and we are delighted to partner with Subaru to make sure Solterra drivers have convenient and reliable charging options,” said Cathy Zoi, EVgo CEO.
Subaru’s partnership with EVgo will allow Solterra owners access to more than 800 DC public fast-charging locations and 1,200+ Level 2 AC charging stalls across 68 metropolitan areas and 35 states.
“Subaru and EVgo share a commitment to performance, reliability, and being good stewards of the environment, which is why we’re excited to partner up to deliver convenient charging for Solterra drivers,” said David Sullivan, product marketing launch manager at Subaru.
“We know that access to convenient and affordable charging is key to accelerating EV adoption, and the Subaru EVgo partnership will deliver just that for our first fully electric drivers.”
