We compare the stylish looks of the all-new Everest against the outgoing model
After a long wait, the 2023 Ford Everest has been unveiled. Picking up from where the all-new Ranger and Ranger Raptor left off, the Everest adopts a similar exterior and interior design. With its F-150-like face and more high-tech cabin, the third-generation SUV is expected to shake up the midsize SUV market.
Seeing just how different it looks compared to its predecessor, we’ve decided to style-check the 2023 Everest and the 2020 outgoing model.
Lean and Mean
Starting with the most obvious, the Everest now sports Ford’s new global truck design DNA. It gets the new C-shaped headlights and daytime running lights arrangement which give the SUV its unmistakable look. It’s then paired to a large front grille complete with a center trim piece that connects the two headlights. The new Everest also comes with a more muscular hood, more defined wheel arches, and even a restyled bumper with reshaped LED foglights.
Side-by-side with the outgoing Everest, it’s clear Ford has been busy sculpting the all-new model. Whereas the second generation had more rounded edges and corners, Ford decided to make the all-new SUV edgier and more aggressive. All in all, we liked how the Ranger’s new looks were translated to the third-generation Everest. Thanks to the F-150-inspired design, the Everest could be the most stylish midsize SUVs in the market today.
Sharp and Muscular Lines
Ford wasn’t only busy giving the Everest a meaner-looking face. Just like the front end, the Blue Oval worked its magic in giving the Everest a sharper-looking rear. A new pair of inverted L-shaped LED taillights highlight the Everest’s more stylish looks. It is then complemented by a redesigned tailgate complete with a garnish that spells out the ‘Everest’ name. Ford also decided to do away with the faux skid plate design on the rear bumper. The result is a cleaner and more urban-looking design.
Along the side, it gets the familiar C-shaped rear quarter glass first seen on the outgoing generation. However, we did notice the all-new Everest gets a thicker D-pillar and a smaller quarter window compared to its predecessor. Last but not least are the creases on the driver and passenger-side doors which appear similar to look similar to the ones on the Ranger.
While some might miss the Everest’s cleaner and more rounded edges from before, we cannot wait to see just how aggressive the all-new SUV is in the metal. We can look at the press pictures all day but there’s nothing like looking at the real thing. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait for too long.
A bolder interior
Climb aboard the Everest and you’ll see that it now has the Ranger’s new interior design. No longer does it come with a horizontal touchscreen at the center of the dashboard. Instead, Ford opted for a tablet-style touchscreen that now runs on SYNC4A. Depending on the model you’re getting, the screen can either be 10.1-inches or 12-inches in size.
There’s also a new digital instrument panel that’s available in two sizes, 8-inches and 12.3-inches. Not only can it display the tachometer and speedometer, the digital cluster can also show points of interest, navigation, media system, and the multi-info display.
Don’t expect to find a T-shaped gear selector inside the new Everest. Just like the Ranger, it now comes with an electro-mechanical, rotary-style gear selector. Thanks to the new design, Ford was able to free up space on the center console of the SUV. On higher-grade versions, the Everest also gets a new wireless charging pad for smartphones, an electronic parking brake, and new dials/buttons for the automatic climate control.
Fresh New Look
When we first saw the all-new Ranger debut last November, we already had an idea of just what the next-generation Everest would look like. What we weren’t expecting is just how different it would be compared to the 2020 model it is replacing.
Some might say Ford overly redesigned the third-generation Everest. But given that Ranger’s look has been completely revamped, Ford made sure the SUV gets fully restyled as well. Personally, we like what Ford did to make the 2023 Everest stand out from the pack.
