Comparing the stylish new 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor against the outgoing generation
It may have taken a while, but the all-new Ford Ranger Raptor has officially been revealed. Now looking more aggressive than ever, the next-generation high-performance pickup truck now borrows its looks from the all-new Ranger launched last November 2021.
Aside from the new body, Ford also fitted a new 3.0-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 under the hood, redesigned the suspension system, and installed a full-time AWD system for better cornering and traction while going off-road at high speeds.
But just how different is the 2022 Ranger Raptor over the outgoing model that we still currently have? To find out, we decided to put both the all-new Raptor against its predecessor to see just if there are any similarities and differences between the two generations.
A meaner and angrier face
To say that the Ranger Raptor looks very aggressive is an understatement. With its bold black grille, high-clearance bumpers, flared wheel arches, and all-terrain tires, it’s raring to jump into the mud and all other types of terrain.
But if there’s one thing we really like with the 2022 Ranger Raptor, it’s the new global truck design DNA. Borrowing styling cues from both the F-150 and Maverick, the Ranger Raptor now looks like a pint-sized F-Series truck.
The new C-shaped headlights, LED daytime running lights, and the larger F-O-R-D grille give the pickup an unmistakable look. It also gets more muscular fenders, a more defined hood, and a larger (and more durable) front skid plate for added protection.
Compared to the outgoing generation, the all-new Raptor looks far more purposeful and sporty. Not that the current Ranger Raptor lacks aggression, but Ford perfectly carved this all-new model from high-strength low-alloy steel.
A busier rear end
While Ford could have solely focused on changing the Ranger Raptor’s face, the Blue Oval was also busy making tweaks to the rear, particularly the tailgate and the LED taillights.
The tailgate has been completely redesigned. It now has a lip at the top which acts as a spoiler of sorts. The tailgate handle now sits closer to the top which allowed Ford to free up space in the middle. And just like the regular pickup, it now features an embossed ‘Ranger’ design and a character line that runs the entire width of the tailgate.
As for the LED taillights, they now incorporate a more stylish and intricate design. It gets a similar C-shaped look which complements the LED C-shaped headlights at the front. Last but not least, the bed gets a new sports bar and rails.
Jet-inspired cockpit
If there’s one thing that’s also worth mentioning about the Ranger Raptor, it’s the cabin. Just like the regular pickup, the Ranger Raptor now comes with a tablet-like 12-inch touchscreen display. Powered by the latest SYNC4, it comes with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, and other connectivity features. It even gets a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.
But perhaps the best feature of the 2022 Ranger Raptor is its seats. Unlike the ones of the previous generation, the new one comes with jet-inspired sports seats for the front and rear passengers. Ford says that they offer better comfort and deliver more support during high-speed cornering. Visually speaking, the seats have wide side bolsters, unique floating-style headrests, and red contrast stitching that give it a sportier look and feel.
Other key upgrades on the new Ranger Raptor include a wide 12.4-inch digital cluster, a redesigned leather-wrapped steering wheel, red highlights on the aircon vents, and Code Orange accents on the instrument panel that provides an extra touch of style.
If you feel like the current Ranger Raptor’s interior looks too much like a regular Wildtrak, Ford has heard your complaints and has thoroughly upgraded the interior of the high-performance pickup truck. We’re also curious to see just how comfortable those jet-inspired seats are once the truck arrives here in the country.
Lean, Mean Macho Machine
After looking at the all-new Ranger Raptor from all angles, Ford clearly wants the high-performance pickup truck to stand out from the pack. Thanks to the Ranger’s new global truck design DNA, Ford was easily able to transform what is already a stylish pickup truck, into an even more aggressive-looking 4×4 machine.
The current Ranger Raptor already looks mean. But if you put it beside the latest generation model, Ford really put the work in to make the truck look badass both inside and out. There’s no exact date yet as to when Ford will officially launch the Ranger Raptor to other global markets, but we’re certainly hoping it happens this year.
