The Chicago Auto Show takes place this weekend, giving eager car fans the first opportunity to get up close and personal with Stellantis' new battery-electric concept vehicle, the Ram 1500 Revolution, among other things. The concept comes packed with many useful features we hope to see in the final product, so it's worth your time to see them in the metal.
While the Revolution might be the highlight of the Stellantis display, the conglomerate usually goes all in at auto shows, providing consumers with enough action to justify the price of a ticket. This year is no different as Camp Jeep returns to the Chicago Show for the 19th year in a row. The Camp Jeep display is meant to showcase the abilities of the American brand's vehicles, and the only disappointing thing about it is that you can't drive yourself. You can't really blame Jeep when the obstacle course includes a 28-foot fake mountain with 45-degree approach and departure angles.
Older models like the Wrangler 4xe, Rubicon, and V8-powered 392 will be available and joined by the new Grand Cherokee 4xe. Since Jeep has been doing this for 19 years, the three millionth ride is expected to take place during the Chicago Auto Show.
Ram will have the Territory Test Track, returning for the 10th year after more than 230,000 test drives. Once again, you can only ride shotgun on a lightweight version of the Camp Jeep display. Ram's fake mountain is only 13 feet high, and it has 30-degree approach and departure angles. Ram's entire range, including the 1500, 2500, and 3500 Limited Night Edition, will be available for laps.
Wagoneer will showcase the L Carbine and Obsidian models, but the big news is the all-new Hurricane twin-turbocharged inline-six engine family. You can take a close look at the engine that will power the next generation of Stellantis gas models, possibly even the successors to the Dodge Challenger and Charger.
Speaking of Dodge, its controversial all-electric muscle car will be in attendance, as will two of the seven Last Call special editions. We're still waiting for the final model, but the Dodge Challenger Black Ghost and Charger King Daytona are a nice consolation prize.
The one most consumers will be interested in is the new Hornet, which has already garnered plenty of interest with thousands of pre-orders.
Chrysler will show the Airflow Concept again, and the sold-out 300C powered by a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 will likely draw a crowd. Larger families can take a gander at the Chrysler Pacifica Road Tripper and all of the cool things that make it the ultimate long-haul vehicle.
We'll gloss over the Fiat 500X because nobody cares and move straight on to the new Alfa Romeo Tonale. It will be available at Alfa dealerships in the spring, but it's already facing an uphill battle. With its corporate cousin (the Hornet) just a few feet away, customers will likely be left wondering why they have to pay more for a car with less power. If you're wondering, the Tonale PHEV produces 285 horsepower, while the far cheaper Hornet R/T PHEV produces more from the same setup.
If you can't attend in person, Stellantis is setting up a virtual show where you can get a 3D tour of the full range of 2023 models.
