The new 2023 Genesis GV60 delivers impressive styling, a premium build, and an aggressive stance. This new Genesis SUV has all the makings of an amazing new luxury electric vehicle, but something is missing. What could the new Genesis GV60 lack that would make it a better choice for luxury shopping consumers?
The 2023 Genesis GV60 is short on the driving range

The new GV60 SUV is the third model from the Hyundai Motor Group to share the E-GMP platform. Unfortunately, to bring more power to a compact luxury electric SUV, Genesis sacrificed its driving range.
Only two trims are offered for this Genesis SUV, Advanced and Performance. Car and Driver tells us the Advanced trim delivers 248 miles of driving while the Performance trim offers only 235 miles on a full charge. By comparison, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 offers up to 303 miles of driving range, and the Kia EV6 achieves as much as 310 miles.
How much power does this Genesis luxury electric SUV produce?
If Genesis gave up driving range to offer more power, we’ve got to understand this sacrifice. The GV60 Advanced produces 314 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque from the dual-motor setup. The GV60 Performance delivers 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a 10-second “Boost” mode for the Performance trim that hits 483 horsepower for fast spring times.
The Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 achieve 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque from the top dual-motor models. These two electric SUVs also offer single-motor versions, with 225 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.
Is the tradeoff of driving range for horsepower in the 2023 Genesis GV60 worth it?

The real answer to this question is more of a personal preference than hard numbers. Still, if you want more exciting driving performance and won’t drive more than 200 miles per day, the GV60 Performance has an excellent package of features.
The Performance trim of this Genesis SUV includes a Preview Electronic Control Suspension. This feature automatically adjusts the ride by using the cameras and the navigation system to read the road surfaces. This suspension technology is typically only found in high-end luxury models such as the BMW 7 Series sedan or Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Still, the GV60 driving range can be problematic
Similar to most modern EVs, the Genesis GV60 can charge from 10-80% in only 18 minutes using a 350-kW DC fast charger. The quick math tells us the Advanced trim would have 198 miles of driving range, and the Performance model would offer 188 miles of range. This doesn’t seem very practical for a long road trip, but to be fair, very few EVs are as practical for long road trips as gasoline-powered vehicles.
