Kia Australia has recalled more than 7000 new vehicles – including the latest Kia Sportage and Niro SUVs – due to a software issue that could impact the illumination of the driver’s instrument panel.
A total of 7163 vehicles are affected by the recall, which includes the Kia Sportage mid-size SUV (NQ5 model code), as well as Kia Seltos (SP2) and Kia Niro (SG2) small SUVs, all built between 2022 and 2023.
In the recall notice, Kia said the instrument cluster in affected models may fail to illuminate the visual seatbelt warning as required by Australian Design Rules (ADRs).
“If the driver is not made aware of an unfastened seatbelt, there is an increased risk of injury or death in case the vehicle is involved in an accident,” Kia said in the notice.
The manufacturer is encouraging affected owners to contact their local Kia dealership to schedule an appointment for a software update, free of charge.

Genesis GV60
Genesis GV60
Hyundai Motor Group luxury brand Genesis has issued a recall for the new battery-electric Genesis GV60 SUV.
A total of 108 cars are being called back to the service centre – all built between 2022 and 2023 – after a manufacturing defect was discovered that could cause the rear driveshaft in affected vehicles to fracture.
This could result in the all-wheel drive EV experiencing “a sudden reduction of motive power”.

Toyota Corolla Cross

Another new model under recall is the Toyota Corolla Cross, which has a potential park brake problem impacting 962 examples of the small SUV.
Only petrol-powered versions of the Corolla Cross are involved in the recall – all built between 2022 and 2023 – including the GX, GXL and flagship Atmos. Petrol-electric hybrid models are unaffected.
The Japanese car-maker says a software issue could cause the electronic parking brake (EPB) to malfunction, which could result in the vehicle moving or rolling away if the gear selector is not in the ‘PARK’ position.

Holden Equinox
Holden Equinox
General Motors has recalled a small number of Holden Equinox mid-size SUVs due to a potential fault with the rear seats.
Just 10 examples of the 2020-built Holden Equinox are affected by the issue, which impacts the ISOFIX child restraint system.
According to the recall notice, the rear seatback frames were manufactured with thicker ISOFIX wire that may excite the requirements under Australian Design Rules.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter
A total of 5239 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans built from 2018-2019 are at risk of a vehicle fire, according to a recall notice published by the German manufacturer.
Mercedes-Benz says the electrical wiring of the interior fan blower may not meet specifications and could cause excess heat when the highest level of air-conditioner/heater is in operation.
This, in turn, could lead to a vehicle fire.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class
Mercedes-Benz S-Class
A recall is also underway for a single 2020-built Mercedes-Benz S 450 L limousine, which may not activate its advanced safety systems in the event of a crash.
According to the notice, “the sealing of the firewall panel between the engine and the passenger compartments may reduce over time, allowing moisture to enter potentially causing corrosion in the electrical component or a short circuit”.
As a result, the Pre-Safe system may not activate as intended, increasing the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants.
