Genesis has taken the luxury sedan segment by storm. When their 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 sedan debuted in the 2021 model year, it offered ample power, a sleek design, and unparalleled sophistication. Competing against its European rivals, it entered the ring packing affluence for thousands of dollars less.
Recently, Genesis has been set on stirring up Old World competition, but this time in the EV market. Genesis has unveiled its all-electric version with the same credentials as the G80, straightforwardly stamped the Electrified G80. For those unsure how the luxury sedan stacks up against its rivals, here are five things Cars.com likes about it.

Genesis’ version of a business-class sedan isn’t cheap. Yet, with a starting price of around $80,000, including destination, the Electrified G80 undercuts other luxury EV competitors. For example, the Mercedes EQS starts above $102,000, the Porsche Taycan is around $87,000, and Tesla Model S is above $96,000. Moreover, the price of the Electrified includes all-wheel drive and the slew of options available on the gasoline-powered G80 Sport.

The top-of-the-line gasoline-powered twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 provides 375 hp, whereas the Electrified version only manages 365. However, dual 136-kWh electric motors can put down 516 lb-ft of torque, compared to the V6’s 391 lb-ft. Car and Driver tested the Electrified’s 0-60 mph at 4.1 seconds, 0.6 seconds ahead of the V6. The improvement in acceleration comes despite the 585 extra pounds the Electrified carries around with its 87.2-kWh battery pack.

The Electrified G80’s cabin is practically identical to the gas version, which is a good thing. Adorned with leather, metal, and wood, nothing inside the Electrified G80 is low-grade. Customers would have to spend thousands of dollars more on a competitor car for the same amenities. While the gasoline-powered G80 has noise-cancellation technology, the Electrified’s silent powertrain makes the cabin quieter and more refined. Genesis themselves say passengers will experience “an oasis of calm.”

Genesis asserts that the Electrified G80 can be charged to 80% from 10% in only 22 minutes using 350-kilowatt DC fast-charging stations. The figures are impressive for a current EV, irrespective of price. Cars.com also tested the Electrified’s home charging ability. Using a 48-amp charger, it can charge at a rate of 10.9 kWh; therefore, empty to full in seven hours and 22 minutes.
Reason #5: It’ll power a house
The Electrified G80 has a power outlet mounted in the front grille for quick access to charge. However, it can also power things like a home during an outage. Owners can obtain sufficient power to operate most 120-volt home appliances using a standard extension cord. Moreover, customers can plug in a TV, sound system, or an electric grill to serve friends at parties and tailgating events.
Is the 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 the best luxury EV?
The Electrified G80 is undoubtedly a worthy contender in the luxury EV sedan segment. Given its interior, customers won’t have any complaints of scratchy plastics or shoddy build quality. With a range of 282 miles, it’s also an excellent choice for commuting without anxiety.
Genesis’ luxury EV does have drawbacks, the most significant of which is its limited availability. While finding one may present a challenge, there will likely be little hesitation in choosing it over a European luxury sedan.
