In an attempt to better position the Skoda Slavia sedan against its main rivals, Skoda Auto India has introduced the more powerful 1.5 TSI powertrain in the mid-spec Ambition trim.
As such, prices for the Skoda Slavia with the 1.5 TSI engine starts from Rs 14.94 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the Ambition trim level equipped with the 6-speed manual gearbox. However, the variant equipped with the 7-speed DSG gearbox is priced at Rs 16.24 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
That being said, Skoda has updated its powertrain to comply with the upcoming RDE and BS6 Phase 2 emission norms in India. In addition to that, the updated powertrains are not only more fuel efficient but are also compatible with the latest E20 petrol (20% Ethanol, 80% Petrol).
Speaking about Skoda Slavia, the sedan is built on the same MQB A0-IN platform as the Skoda Kushaq SUV. As a result, it is among the spacious sedans in its segment measuring 4541mm long, 1752mm wide, 1487mm tall, and sports a wheelbase of 2,651mm.
In terms of powertrain, the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine (1.5 TSI) produces 148bhp of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque. Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed DSG unit.
There is also a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. This engine produces a respectable 113bhp of power and 178Nm of torque. Furthermore, this engine can be specified with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
At present, prices for the Skoda Slavia sedan starts from Rs 11.29 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base ‘Active’ trim level equipped with the manual gearbox and goes all the way up to Rs 18.39 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the top-spec ‘Style’ trim level with DSG transmission.
