Over 15 lakh cars have been produced by the Skoda, Volkswagen & Audi plants in India. Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has announced that the group has reached the impressive milestone of producing 15,00,000 cars. SAVWIPL leads the operations of Skoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche & Lamborghini in India.
The Volkswagen Group is one of the largest brands in the world with several iconic marques under its umbrella. With cars from Skoda, Volkswagen, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley, Audi & Seat, and bikes from Ducati, the VW Group certainly sees no lack in the number of vehicles it can sell. This also leads to great sales numbers as it has now proven in India.
The 15 lakh vehicles produced were manufactured at the group’s facilities in Chakan and Auranagabad. Of the 15 lakh vehicles produced, 5,45,700 cars were exported while over 9.5 lakh vehicles were sold in India.
The growth shown by Skoda, Volkswagen, Audi, and even premium brands like Porsche and Lamborghini is immense, especially given the challenges faced by automotive manufacturers in the last 2-3 years. First the pandemic-induced lockdowns and restrictions and then the semiconductor crisis.
Automobile manufacturers have surely had a tough time. However, SAVWIPL seems to have navigated through the challenges pretty well. Sales have increased drastically in recent months. This can be attributed to the kind of products put on sale by these brands.
Skoda is doing exceptionally well with the launch of the new Octavia, Kushaq, Kodiaq and the more recent Slavia. The Kodiaq despite being the most expensive Skoda on sale in India was sold-out within absolutely no time. Then comes the Kushaq which is bringing in the sales volumes. While the Octavia is tending to premium sedan buyers, the Slavia is raking in lots of bookings.
Over at Volkswagen dealerships, the Polo continues to bring in large sales numbers. Apart from this, the Taigun is selling well and so is the recently-launched Virtus. Audi is doing reasonably well too, while Lamborghini has clocked its best sales so far.
When all this is put together, it is quite obvious that Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited is having a great run in the Indian market and the 1.5 million units produced bear witness to this.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director of SAVWIPL was quoted as saying, “Today we have 1.5 million reasons to be proud of our employees’ performance. Without them, the great result of SAVWIPL would be unimaginable. The production milestone is a significant achievement and a testament to the success of our products in the domestic as well as export market.
