The Australian petroleum company Ampol has partnered with SEA Electric to offer integrated charging solutions in their home market. SEA specialises in commercial electric vehicles and hopes to add charging to the range with Ampol.
Calling it ” industry-first, ” Ampol and SEA Electric say they will develop “seamless charging options”, ” including offers for drivers of SEA Electric vehicles to charge at Ampol forecourts on the road. The statement also makes mention of the AmpCharge network.
While more details are missing, e.g. preferential rates for SEA EV drivers, both companies have been active in the EV space in Australia. Ampol is among the oil and other corporations that have received funding from New South Wales and the central government to install EV chargers along the country’s highways and has been known to work with Tritium for the equipment, also from Australia.
SEA Electric has been producing electric trucks and EV conversions since 2019 and has continued to score large orders from companies like Ikea Australia. In 2021, the Melbourne-based company launched the production of two in-house electric vehicles, the SEA 300 and SEA 500, based on the Hino 500 Series and Hino 300 Series models.
The company is also active in the US market.
As for Australia, SEA has hailed the new partnership as providing flexible charging options for electric truck owners, with many Ampol customers moving into the EV space in cars and now with light trucks. The partnership will help reduce range anxiety for businesses looking to invest in electric trucks, says SEA.
“At SEA Electric, we are building an entire customer-led ecosystem to simplify the transition to electrification, with a SEA Electric trained national dealer network for sales and service, full factory warranty, 24/7 support and roadside assistance, and a range of charging options at the base or on the road,” Bill Gillespie, SEA Electric President, Asia Pacific Region added.
James Myatt, Ampol’s General Manager, Energy, said Ampol would work with SEA Electric and leverage its knowledge and strong relationships across industries to help support commercial vehicle owners’ decarbonisation goals.

We know our business customers are looking for lower emissions solutions and want to ensure their investment in commercial electric vehicles can be supported with efficient and reliable charging technologies,” Myatt said.
