A Toyota Kluger has been destroyed after causing a massive crash on the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge in Sydney, Australia.
Dashcam footage of the accident shows the driver of the Kluger speeding through traffic when suddenly, they lose control of the SUV while trying to brake. The Toyota then crosses into oncoming traffic and slams head-on into a white Toyota van and a second SUV traveling in the opposite direction. Shortly after the impact, the Kluger can be seen catching fire.
Local police report that the Kluger had just been stolen. It is understood that the SUV’s owner was changing a wheel in the center of the city when he was approached by a man. ABC News states that a fight broke out before the unnamed assailant was able to steal the Toyota and quickly drove it towards the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The man driving the Kluger was pulled from the burning car by passing motorists and was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital where he is under police guard. The man driving the white van had to be cut free by emergency services and was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital with serious injuries but remains in a stable condition. A woman driving the second SUV that was hit was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
Authorities closed the bridge for three hours and were able to quickly extinguish the flames.
“I can only begin to imagine what the other drivers would have witnessed and experienced when they saw that vehicle coming towards them… which we would allege was above the speed limit,” Detective Superintendent Rohan Cramsie said of the dashcam footage. “It’s horrifying to watch.” Cramsie added that it was fortunate no one was killed in the crash.
Acting Superintendent Mathew Sigmund added that the driver of the van was particularly fortunate: “The van was involved at the front end, so the driver was impacted and the front of the vehicle was crushed towards him. They probably had to cut a door off the side and then in conjunction with NSW Ambulance, with a medical plan, they would have, as safely but as quickly as possible removed that person from the van.”
