The 27-litre V12 Merlin aero engine from World War 2 is the polar opposite to the marque’s new EV direction.
The current Spirit of Ecstacy will remain on the Cullinan, Dawn, Ghost, Wraith and Phantom.
Same same but different, and sleeker.
The new design stands 17mm shorter.
This will be what EVs produced in Goodwood will adorn on their bonnet.
A particular focus on realism has been put forward on the new design.
If you didn’t already know, makers of brute reciprocating engines that in history have powered World War 2 aircraft and opulent land yachts have now committed to transition into sustainable mobility. The redesigned and sleek Spirit of Ecstasy will feature on their new EV, the Spectre.

The Spirit of Ecstasy, which was made the symbol of the sumptuous Rolls-Royce brand and has remained unchanged for over a century, has now been put through a makeover on the 111th anniversary of its inception.
Same same but different, and sleeker.
As auto manufacturers transition into sustainable mobility and reinvent themselves, Rolls-Royce has opted to create a sleek Spirit of Ecstasy which will feature on their full EVs in the near future.
This will be what EVs produced in Goodwood will adorn on their bonnet.
The hood mounted ornament which portrays wealth and excellence will feature in the company’s debut EV, the Spectre which has achieved a drag coefficient of 0.26 in prototype guise. The production versions are expected to improve this number making it the most aerodynamic car the Goodwood marque has ever produced, akin to that of its Supermarine Spitfire forefather.
A particular focus on realism has been put forward on the new design.
Technically speaking, the remodelled version has been shortened by 17mm now standing at 82.7mm tall and is said to bear a closer resemblance to the initial sketches of the original designer, Charles Sykes. Rolls-Royce have said that the updated design “is a true goddess of speed, braced for the wind, one leg forward, body tucked low, her eyes focused eagerly ahead,”

In the process of recreating the icon, Rolls-Royce consulted stylists to focus on realism for the sleek Spirit of Ecstasy, particularly her hair, clothes, posture and expression.
The current Spirit of Ecstacy will remain on the Cullinan, Dawn, Ghost, Wraith and Phantom.
Outgoing models such as the locally named Cullinan, Dawn, Ghost, Wraith and Phantom will continue to use their current design but will soon become a thing of the past as all Rolls-Royce models will be going fully electric by 2030.
