Venerable British luxury car manufacturer Rolls-Royce has announced that it will make an “historic” electric vehicle announcement on Thursday.
In a press release issued today, Rolls-Royce committed again to releasing an all-electric vehicle by 2030, though “only when the time is right, and every element meets Rolls-Royce’s technical, aesthetic and performance standards.”
The final vehicle, whenever it breaks cover, is expected to combine the lessons from 2011’s electric Phantom EE concept and 2016’s Vision Next 100 concept.

Though neither of these cars were intended for production, Rolls-Royce was used both to test out new features. The Phantom EE concept proved that an electric motor could be used to power the heavy and large Phantom chassis, though the range and battery life cycles proved challenging.

The Vision Next 100, meanwhile, was designed to offer a glimpse into Rolls’ ideas about the future of high-end motoring. The car was huge – 5.9 meters long and 1.6 meters tall – but was designed around a “lightweight” platform. It also offered a bespoke coachbuilt body for client customisation and a “virtual assistant and chauffeur” for an “effortless journey.”
However, as it stands, we will have to wait until Thursday to find out exactly what Rolls-Royce has got under wraps.
