Some things in life are predictable, such as sunrise following darkness and the planets orbiting the sun. A real spectre that we know has been waiting to reveal itself is the new Ghost Extended, a long wheelbase variant of the newly launched luxury saloon. It will make its public debut at the 2020 Beijing Motor Show.
Rolls-Royce states that this car was conceived with the help of its exceedingly loyal customer base in order to certain a vehicle tailor-made for the job. These owners wanted an opulent space to be chauffeur-driven during business hours, but also a vehicle more dynamic than a Phantom to drive themselves at weekends.
The Ghost Extended provides 170mm more legroom than the standard car, but retains its handling characteristics. That increase in interior volume actually makes this model the second most spacious after the Phantom Extended.
VIPs in the rear cabin can also enjoy chilled champagne via a dedicated fridge designed with a Master Sommelier. The cooling unit chills non-vintage champagne at 6 degrees, and collectable vintages at 11 degrees. While a fridge is somewhat traditional, this Ghost is ready to do business in the modern-day as well thanks to onboard wifi and advance infotainment systems. It’s also fitted with a Micro-Environment Purification System, that will automatically detect contaminants and purify the air.
Nested within the all-aluminium spaceframe is a twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre V12 engine. Peak power registers at 426bhp and is accompanied by an ample 623lb-ft of torque. While fast, the car is also traditionally silent, featuring 100kg of acoustic damping to keep the journey hushed.
Just like the regular Ghost, a new Planar Suspension System is fitted to deliver the results of a 10-year refinement program. It incorporates a continuously variable, electronically controlled shock absorbers, self-levelling high-volume air strut assemblies and an upper wishbone damper. Rolls-Royce has once again gone to extreme lengths to ensure that it provides one of the finest luxury automotive experiences in the world.
Just like all Rolls-Royce models, the craftspeople at Goodwood will customise your Ghost Extended to your exacting specifications. Customers in the past have asked for bespoke interior gadgets, cars painted using real gold and even one to match a tennis ball.
