Audi has announced that Spurs manager and eye poker José Mourinho has become its latest brand ambassador – quick, someone get to the Co-op and buy some Ferrero Rochers for the reception.
Audi hasn’t said what the partnership entails besides having Jose pose next to a Q8, but we assume he’ll be forced to attend the regional launch in Harrogate of a facelifted Q3 or something, all the while thanking the lord for social distancing. “The revised Q3 is a special one,” he’ll say, before disappearing to his room to play Football Manager on his laptop while enjoying a mini pipe of Pringles.
It’s pretty obvious why Audi would want Jose to be seen tooling around in one of its cars, but here’s what the company has to say on the matter anyways: “José is unquestionably one of the best managers in the history of football, having won two Champions Leagues, two UEFA Cup / Europa Leagues, and a number of league titles in England, Spain, Italy and Portugal.
“You don't reach those stellar heights without an unerring commitment to excellence and forward thinking. That's why we are sure our well-known philosophy of ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ chimes with his own. We are so pleased to welcome José on board as an Audi ambassador.”
That was Audi UK Director Andrew Doyle, for the record. And here’s what Jose himself said about his latest commercial partnership: “It is a great privilege to become an Audi ambassador. It is a luxury brand with a phenomenal reputation for quality, technology and safety around the world. Audi UK has been a great partner to my club, and I look forward to working with them myself.”
In other words, when Jose inevitably leaves Spurs in a haze of misreported controversy he won’t necessarily have his wife’s new A1 taken away immediately.
