German commercial EV maker and conversions specialist Quantron has made its first sales of electric buses in Italy. The latest contract comes from Turin, which expects six buses of type Cizaris 12 EV to enter service this autumn.
The customer is the transport company Miccolis. Quantron had won an international tender and the new electric buses will serve a new bus route starting this October in Turin.
Miccolis runs 500 buses in various parts of Italy, but it is unclear from Quantron’s announcement whether these include BEV buses.
For Quantron, the Turin order is the “largest” order of the new buses to date. The company is rather known for its trucks and fuel cell vehicles. Still, it presented the Cizaris 12 EV in early 2022.
The 12-metre solo bus has a range of up to 370 kilometres. Specifically, Quantron relies on a combination of lithium iron phosphate batteries and a synchronous central motor from Dana/TM4 for the bus. The battery packs from partner CATL – with a choice between 242 and 424 kilowatt hours – are mounted on the roof. They charge 65 to 150 kW direct current in three to five hours. The engine has a continuous output of 145 kW and a peak output of 245 kW.
Miccolis opted for batteries with a total energy content of 363 kWh and a layout with space for up to 89 passengers.
Quantron already stated at the time of the market launch of the e-buses that the sales focus would be on Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Scandinavia and Southern Europe.
As for Italy, the company recently established Quantron Italy as a subsidiary. Its director, Fabrizio Simoni, said it was “an honour to have Europe’s first Cizaris vehicles operational in Turin, a city that is a symbol of transport and mobility”.
In addition, the company delivered four fully electric minibuses to municipalities on the island of Elba. Quantron Italy converted these vehicles using the Quantron EV150 kit.
