Niederrheinische Verkehrsbetriebe AG (NIAG) has ordered 31 new electric buses from the Dutch manufacturer Ebusco. Ebusco has thus received a follow-up order even before the first vehicles from the previous order have been delivered.

The current order for the Ebusco 3.0 model comprises 19 units of the twelve-metre version and twelve units of the 18-metre version. The solo buses have battery packs with more than 350 kWh, while the articulated buses have more than 500 kWh installed, according to Ebusco. Delivery of these buses is scheduled for the end of 2024. The 31 new Ebusco 3.0 will be used by NIAG in the districts of Wesel and Kleve.

At the end of 2022, NIAG had already ordered twelve Ebusco 3.0 in the 12-metre version. Their delivery is still planned for the end of 2023. As reported, Ebusco has just started with the delivery of the first Ebusco 3.0 from series production – specifically to Transdev in the Netherlands.

So when the vehicles from the current order are delivered at the end of 2024, 43 electric buses from Ebusco will be on the road in Wesel and Kleve on behalf of NIAG. With a bus route network of more than 2,200 kilometres and 36.5 million passengers per year, NIAG is the largest provider of public bus transport in the Lower Rhine region. “In 2022 we ordered our first twelve Ebusco 3.0 twelve-metre buses, this follow-up order for 31 buses is another important step towards the electrification of the entire bus fleet,” says Hendrik Vonnegut, Managing Director of NIAG.

“We are delighted with the trust NIAG has placed in us with this follow-up order,” adds Patrick Oosterveld, Sales Director at Ebusco. “The 18-metre Ebusco 3.0 bus was launched at the end of last year, and the combination of high passenger capacity, extra-long range and extremely low energy consumption allows us to make an even greater contribution to environmental protection.”
