Peugeot has taken the wraps off its new e-Expert van range, which brings electric propulsion and impressive load-lugging abilities to the compact van segment. Using the same basic underpinnings as the recently announced Citroen e-Dispatch, the e-Expert comes with two battery capacity options for the first time in Peugeot's commercial vehicle history. The Compact and Standard models, which are the smallest in the line-up, feature a 50 kWh battery, with a range of up to 143 miles according to the WLTP certification protocol. Standard and Long bodies can also be equipped with the larger 75 kWh battery, which offers a range of up to 205 miles.
Peugeot will also offer two on-board charging solutions: a 7.4 kW single-phase charger as standard and an optional 11 kW three-phase charger, which can top up the batteries in just five hours. When on the move, customers can take advantage of public 100 kW chargers and reach 80% charge in 30 minutes (50 kWh battery) or 45 minutes (75 kWh battery).
According to the marque, nearly 80% of commercial vehicle drivers travel, on average, less than 124miles per day, meaning even the smallest battery pack here can tackle a full day of deliveries and logistical solutions on a single charge. Plus, it allows users to drive into those designated low emissions area that no longer allow the internal combustion engine to enter.
Inside, the e-Expert features a redesigned touchscreen infotainment system, a new e-toggle automatic gearbox control and numerous drive selections modes, which include Eco, Normal or Power. Three people can fit in the spacious front bench and there is the inclusion of a mobile office function, which sees a swivel table integrated into the folding backrest of the central seat. Plus, there is additional storage space under the centre seat.
Although not exactly a performance machine, the compact van can accelerate from 0-62mph in 13.1 seconds and go on to a max speed of 80mph. To ensure the van is competitive in terms of payload, Peugeot has ensured it can manage 1275kg in the rear and tow up to 1000kg loads, which is on par with its internal combustion brethren. Turning circle radius is also an impressive 11.3m and flexibility has been promised, with Peugeot stating that the e-Expert can easily undergo conversions by coach builders, in particular those adaptations based on the cabin floor, allowing for refrigeration units and the like to be installed.
There is no official word on pricing, with figures expected to be revealed closer to the van’s arrival in dealers at the tail end of this year.
