PARIS: Peugeot’s new 5008 keeps only the name from the lion brand’s former compact people carrier, revamping the rest and refreshing the concept. The manufacturer is hoping to see the new 5008 become the leading C-segment seven-seater SUV.
There’s no doubt that Peugeot’s new 5008 is an SUV, with its raised beltline and long horizontal hood. The front features an exclusive grille with chrome fins while the back gets Peugeot’s signature LED “claw effect” rear lights, seen on all the brand’s latest SUVs.
Peugeot promises C02 emissions from 115g/km for the gasoline model and 105g/km for the diesel. Plus, the Peugeot 5008 is billed as a highly spacious model, with an exclusive configuration featuring three seats in row two and two removable seats in row three, offering up to 1,060 liters of trunk space. For extra comfort, the front seats have a pneumatic massage system (optional) and passengers can enjoy an onboard Focal Hi-Fi system and a panoramic opening roof. Peugeot has added all kinds of safety systems too — depending on the models and trim levels — such as an Automatic Emergency Braking System (AEBS), distance alert, Active Lane Keeping Assistance (LKA), driver attention warnings, speed sign recognition, speed suggestion, etc.
The Peugeot 5008 has the latest version of the brand’s i-Cockpit with a compact steering wheel, an 8-inch tablet for access to mobile applications (compatible with MirrorLink, Android Auto and Apple Carplay) and a 12.3″ digital head-up display.
The new Peugeot 5008 line will be available in five trim levels (Access, Active, Allure, GT and GT Line). Pricing is yet to be announced, but the SUV is expected in concessions in spring 2017.
The Peugeot 5008 will be one of the stars of the manufacturer’s stand at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, alongside the new 3008 and the restyled 308.
The Paris Motor Show runs Oct 1 to 16 at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles exhibition centre.
