Peugeot e-2008 (2020 – present) | Expert Rating [hide]
Summary
Launched in 2019 and arriving in the UK in early 2020, the Peugeot e-2008 is one of the new breed of small electric crossovers. It forms part of the overall Peugeot 2008 range, along with petrol and diesel versions.
The e-2008 takes on an ever-growing line-up of rivals, from electric pioneers such as the Nissan Leaf to the latest e-SUVs typified by the Hyundai Kona Electric and the Kia e-Niro.
Reviewers have praised the Peugeot e-2008 for its sharp exterior styling and upmarket interior, although its distinctive ‘i-cockpit’ dashboard isn’t universally admired. It also scores on space, offering the same as its traditionally-powered siblings with impact on boot space from the batteries.
However the electric drivetrain, combining a 134hp motor with a 50kWh battery, attracts more criticism. There are few complaints about the car’s smooth, hushed progress but it’s not considered particularly sprightly. And its range, around 160 miles in ‘real-world’ use, will be unlikely to divert potential Hyundai and Kia buyers, with both the Kona Electric and e-Niro going a lot further between charges.
The Peugeot does recover marks for allowing 100kW rapid recharging, which means you can charge the battery from flat to 80% capacity in around half an hour, and for its charge socket. This is at the back, where the fuel filler normally is, so you don’t have to reverse out of a parking space after using a public charger.
The Peugeot e-2008 currently holds an Expert Rating of 72%, based on 17 reviews. This is slightly better than the fossil-fuel Peugeot 2008, which currently has an Expert Rating of 70% as of December 2021.

Model reviewed: Range overviewScore: 8 / 10“The Peugeot e-2008 is a sharp-looking small SUV that, although on the pricey side, will save you hundreds if not thousands of pounds every year on your motoring. Unlike with some EVs, there’s no compromise compared with an ICE model.”

Model reviewed: Range overviewScore: 7 / 10“To those who are already confident with a sub-200-mile range, the Peugeot e-2008 should appeal strongly – but it’s unlikely to have sufficient usability to set the EV segment alight.”

Model reviewed: Range overviewScore: 8 / 10“If you’re desperate for maximum range, a Hyundai Kona Electric or Kia e-Niro will still comfortably glean more miles from its batteries. If you’re not, the Peugeot e-2008 has buckets of kerb appeal, a fantastic interior and no detriment to interior packaging compared to combustion-engined versions.”

Model reviewed: 50kWh 136 GT lineScore: 8 / 10“The petrol 2008 we tested a couple of months ago was a good car, but expensive. So it goes with the e-2008. Except the price gap to its cheaper electric rivals isn’t so yawning; what’s more, the quality interior, smooth driving experience and upmarket demeanour make that gap worth bridging.”

What Car?
Model reviewed: Range overviewScore: 8 / 10“If you don’t need a massive range – most people’s journeys aren’t that big on average – the Peugeot e-2008’s range should be just fine, and it delivers decent passenger space, a good-sized boot, a nice interior and a comfy and quiet ride.”

Model reviewed: Score: 7.4 / 10“The addition of electric power to the Peugeot 2008 range has only served to increase its appeal. It’s not the sharpest compact SUV to drive, but it’s certainly good enough to be a Best Buy.”

Safety rating
No safety rating
The Peugeot e-2008 has not yet been awarded a safety rating by Euro NCAP. The conventional Peugeot 2008 range was tested in 2019, scoring four stars in standard form and five stars with the optional safety pack. The safety pack includes a more extensive autonomous emergency braking system including adaptive cruise control with stop and go function.
The safety rating for the regular 2008 does not automatically apply to the electric e-2008 as replacing the engine/gearbox/fuel tank with an electric motor and battery creates substantial differences in the overall vehicle, so it may behave significantly differently in an emergency.
If and when Euro NCAP tests the Peueot e-2008, we will update this page accordingly.
Eco rating
No eco rating
The Peugeot e-2008 has not been lab tested by Green NCAP. This is a new initiative, launched in 2018 as a sister organisation to Euro NCAP. As yet, very few new cars have been tested for environmental impact by Green NCAP, and inevitably the testing programme was halted in early 2020 by the coronavirus pandemic.
The Green NCAP programme measures exhaust pollution (which is zero for an electric car) and energy efficiency. Electric cars are much more energy-efficient than combustion cars, so the Peugeot e-2008 is likely to score very highly in Green NCAP testing if and when it ever takes place. Check back again soon.
