Expressions of interest open for electrified mid-size French wagon ahead of local arrival in pre-facelift form; pricing TBC
Peugeot Australia has announced the 2023 Peugeot 508 GT Sportswagon Plug-In Hybrid will join its local model range in the second quarter of this year, however, it won’t be the facelifted version shown by the French brand last month.
Aussie pricing and specification details for the sleek new electrified mid-size wagon are still being finalised, but Peugeot has started taking expressions of interest via its website and dealer network for what will be the third plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model offered in this market.
Just one version will be sold here and we can get a pretty clear idea of what to expect by looking at the kit list of the corresponding sedan, which has been on sale in Australia since early last year.
Standard equipment should include 18-inch alloys, adaptive dampers, dual-zone climate control, blue ambient lighting, Nappa leather upholstery, massaging front seats and a 10-speaker FOCAL sound system, along with myriad other GT-spec features.
Under the bonnet will be the same 165kW/360Nm plug-in hybrid powertrain built around a 133kW 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine and an 81kW electric motor, the latter of which is sustained by a 11.8kWh lithium-ion battery.
An eight-speed automatic is the only transmission on offer.
Peugeot Australia managing director Kate Gillis said the 508 Sportswagon would appeal to “discerning customers who appreciate characterful and emotive style as well as the versatility and practicality afforded by the wagon design”.
“We believe the additional benefits of plug-in hybrid technology will further enhance the local appeal of our Sportswagon,” she said.
There has been no update on when we might see the sharper-looking 508 facelift in Australia, where the French brand’s local division previously stated it would announce launch timing for the new model in due course.
