Ford is one of the most famous American automakers in the world, and it has a lineup of popular pickup trucks for customers to choose from. That being said, despite the popularity of Ford trucks, Consumer Reports only recommends one Ford truck. Here’s a look at the 2022 Ford Ranger and why it’s the only Ford pickup truck that Consumer Reports recommends.
How the 2022 Ford F-150 and F-250 rated

The most popular car in Ford’s lineup is undoubtedly the Ford F-150, but according to Consumer Reports, it didn’t score very well. The F-150 has an overall score of 60 out of 100, which is not a very good score overall. That being said, compared to other full-size pickups, the F-150 is the second-best truck in the segment.
The F-150 received a 75 out of 100 on its road test, and Consumer Reports also gave it a 4 out of 5 for its predicted owner satisfaction rating. However, what dragged its score down was its predicted reliability rating. Despite being a workhorse, the F-150’s had some reliability issues in the past, and as such, its predicted reliability score is a 2 out of 5.
The Ford F-250 is a heavy-duty version of the F-150, so it has a similar score to the F-150, according to Consumer Reports. It got a 56 out of 100 on its overall score, and just like the F-150, its predicted owner satisfaction rating was 4 out of 5. However, the F-250 only got a 53 out of 100 on its road test. Regarding its reliability, the F-250 is slightly better than the F-150, as it has a 3 out of 5 for its predicted reliability rating.
Due to these scores, neither of these trucks were recommended by Consumer Reports.
Why the 2022 Ford Ranger was recommended by Consumer Reports
Interestingly, the Ford Ranger’s overall score is not that different from the F-150 and the F-250 models. Consumer Reports gave the Ranger an overall score of 62 out of 100, and just like the F-150, the Ranger is the second-best truck in its segment. That’s where the similarities between the two Ford trucks end, though.
The Ranger didn’t do that well on its road test, as it received a 55 out of 100 on it. Its predicted owner satisfaction rating is also a little lower than the bigger Ford trucks, as it has a 3 out of 5 on that. Where the Ranger does better than its bigger siblings is in its reliability, as the 2020 and 2021 model years have some good reliability scores.
Thanks to that, the Ranger has a predicted reliability score of 4 out of 5. These scores were good enough for Consumer Reports to recommend the truck.
There are other Ford trucks to consider
While the Ranger is currently the only Ford truck recommended by Consumer Reports, this may not be the case forever. Currently, there are three other Ford trucks that Consumer Reports hasn’t rated yet. The F-350, for example, is an even heavier-duty version of the F-150, and it has not been tested by Consumer Reports yet.
The Ford Maverick, a brand-new truck that Ford introduced recently, is currently being tested by Consumer Reports. That’s the same story for the F-150 Lightning, Ford’s all-electric pickup truck that recently debuted. For now, everyone will just have to wait until Consumer Reports finishes its review of those two new Ford trucks.
