It's had a good life but now it's time to go.
It may sound somewhat hard to believe, but the Acura ILX debuted way back in 2012 for the 2013 model year. Based on the ninth-generation Honda Civic, the ILX underwent two facelifts, in 2016 and 2019, throughout its life, and was even Acura’s first-ever hybrid model. But the ILX has now reached the end of the road. Motor1 has confirmed with the Japanese luxury brand that the ILX is being shown the door at the conclusion of the 2022 model year. The all-new, reborn Acura Integra will take its place in the lineup.
“The new Integra was developed from day 1 to deliver on the original lineage that began with Integra back in 1986. It is a continuation of that formula that brought so many first-time buyers into the Acura family and will be the new entry point to the brand,” a company spokesperson stated.
“The 2022 model year is the final model year for the ILX, in anticipation of the new Integra.”
None of this should come as a surprise and there have even been rumors floating about the ILX and Integra fan communities over the past few months regarding such a scenario. The ILX was never a high-performance model. Its brilliance was that it enabled plenty of customers to enter the premium segment at an affordable price. For its 2019 refresh, for example, Acura gave the compact sedan a series of significant interior and exterior updates along with a $2,200 price cut. The result? A 30 percent sales increase.
This packaging was so attractive, in fact, that the average transaction price went by $700 because buyers preferred higher trim levels, such as the A-Spec appearance package. Regardless of trim, all current ILXs come powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder rated at 201 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. Power goes to the front wheels only via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The new Integra is getting a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder, the same engine in the Civic Si where it pumps out 200 hp and 192 lb-ft. Acura has not confirmed precise power figures for the Integra but we know it’ll be available with a six-speed manual. Integra orders will officially begin on March 10. As for the ILX, now is clearly the time to buy.
