Supercar-slaying new German sedan is still more than 12 months away, but hype is clearly building
With the new-generation BMW 5 Series having been revealed and available in Australia soon, eyes are now keenly fixed on BMW’s social media platforms in anticipation for the reveal of the bahnstorming, supercar-slaying new M5 performance flagship.
Unfortunately, it will probably be at least year or so before we get any official hints about the all-new super-sedan, but the reveal of the standard 5 Series line-up and an increasing number of spy images have yielded this tasty appetiser from popular automotive graphic designer X-Tomi.
The new BMW M5 will pack upwards of 560kW/1000Nm courtesy of a V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain when it eventually debuts and so it’s only natural the fastest M-car to date looks the part in order to warn off drivers of high-performance cars from Mercedes-AMG, Audi RS and Porsche.
Clearly drawing inspiration from the exterior designs of the lesser M-badged 5 Series sedans, X-Tomi has dialled every possible detail up to 11 in these renders, all of which are accentuated by a lurid contrasting red and black colour scheme.
Lurid might be too strong a word – we dig the combination – but there’s no getting around the fact the rendered M5 looks properly mean; much nastier than the current-generation and arguably even angrier than most Mercedes-AMG products.
A frowning light signature is paired with flared nostrils (aka double kidney grille) and a snarling bumper design headlined by some huge intakes, black bezels and an integrated carbon chin. The chunky look continues down the flanks of the vehicle via enlarged wheel-arches and accentuated body contouring.
The rear-end is defined by a less-than-subtle lip spoiler and pumped-up bumper housing quad exhaust outlets; we can’t see this in the render, but previous spy shots have already spilled the tea.
A black roof, alloys and (carbon) mirrors round out the unofficial package, which isn’t expected to make its public debut for at least another 12 months or so, but BMW has suggested a five-door M5 Touring wagon is also in the works for 2025, or at least thereabouts.
