Volkswagen has released yet another teaser of the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus mid-size sedan. According to Volkswagen, their latest mid-size sedan will make its global debut on 8th March 2022.
The new teaser partially reveals the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus sedan and comes with a caption that reads “Could acceleration mean exhilaration?”
Volkswagen will replace the ageing Volkswagen Vento sedan in India with the launch of the Volkswagen Virtus mid-size sedan in the country. While Volkswagen Virtus is already on sale in some South American countries, the facelifted model is what makes the global debut on the above-mentioned date.
Speaking about the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus sedan, the mid-size sedan is built on the same MQB-A0 IN platform as other cars under the Volkswagen Group such as Volkswagen Taigun SUV, Skoda Kushaq SUV, and Skoda Slavia Sedan.
That being said, the upcoming Skoda Slavia and the Volkswagen Virtus sedan are almost identical under the skin with near-identical dimensions, features and powertrain options.
This means the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus sedan will be powered by the same two engine options that power the Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and Skoda Slavia.
This means the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine will produce around 113bhp of peak power and 178Nm of peak torque. While the larger 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine will produce 150bhp of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque.
The Volkswagen Virtus will also come with a choice of manual and automatic transmissions on all engine options. While the manual transmission is a 6-speed unit on both engines, the automatic transmission varies between the two engines on offer.
We expect the Volkswagen Virtus equipped with the 1.0-litre TSI engine to get a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, whereas the Volkswagen Virtus equipped with the 1.5-litre TSI engine is likely to get a more advanced 7-speed DSG transmission.
In terms of features, expect the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus sedan to mimic features from Skoda Slavia with features such as a large a fully-digital instrument cluster, electric sunroof, automatic climate control,10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging pad, automatic headlamps, automatic wipers, cruise control and much more.
Apart from that, the Volkswagen Virtus sedan will feature safety features such as 6-airbags, ABS, EBD, Traction Control (TC), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and much more.
Expect the Volkswagen Virtus to be priced a smidge above the upcoming Skoda Slavia in India and may come with more premium upholstery to justify the minor premium on the pricing.
