Shelby American was created on December 15, 2009. For the 2021 anniversary, the tuner unveiled the new Shelby GT500KR with 900 horsepower. With that, a Shelby legend has been resurrected. Shelby American has a special date on December 15th. Since that pre-Christmas day in 2009, the firm, which had been renamed Shelby Automobiles in the meantime, has been functioning under the moniker given by its creator Carroll Shelby in 1962.
Shelby got into problems owing to economic and legal irregularities among business partners, and this day also marks the conclusion of an unpleasant era in which he got into difficulties. Shelby was reincarnated as a tuner and small-series maker on December 15, 2009, which is similar to the day on which it was reborn as a tuner and small-series manufacturer. Shelby, the tuner, will be 60 years old in 2022.
So it’s no coincidence that Shelby American will unveil its next tuning model on December 15, 2021.
It was obvious from the start that it would be a Mustang. The tuner has now removed the fabric off the new GT500KR, completing the legend’s return.
The GT500KR will be offered as a new vehicle based on the GT500’s 2022 model, as well as a retrofit kit for current GT500 models from 2020 and 2021. Customers can place orders with Shelby beginning February 1, 2022, in any case. In the first quarter of 2022, it will be renovated or reconstructed.
With a compressor capable of producing over 900 horsepower
After that, the GT500KR is available with remarkable performance figures. In conjunction with charge air conditioning and a newly developed intake system, Shelby installs a 3.8 liter Whipple compressor to the 5.2 liter Mustang V8.
On the exhaust side, a Borla sports exhaust system with four strong tailpipes is added.
If the V8 is fed 93 octane fuel, Shelby claims it will produce over 900 horsepower. When using regular gasoline, there are a few less horses available at the start.
Reinforced drive shafts, height-adjustable chassis springs, adjustable stabilizers on both axles, and a new software set-up for the electronically controlled chassis round out the power motor. Shelby manufactures its own 20-inch forged wheels, which are wrapped in Michelin sports tires.
The GT500KR’s hood is heavily perforated.
Of course, the GT500KR appears to have over 900 horsepower. It also sports a carbon-fiber bonnet with severe perforations, a new front spoiler and rear diffuser, both made of carbon, and new Gurney flaps. Leather surfaces, customized floor mats, and a badge with the numbered serial number on the center console distinguish Shelby’s interior.
Shelby adds a wide-body body package, a polished compressor, and racing stripes to the GT500KR for an extra fee. On request, the rear seat system is also disassembled and replaced with a roll cage.
Only 225 will be constructed.
The GT500KR will only be produced in 225 units. Each model year from 2020 to 2022 has 60 of them. These 180 automobiles will be sold in the United States. Only the autos from 2022 have a 60-year badge. The other 45 copies should be included in the export.
Anyone who has their current Mustang converted will be charged $ 54,995 in addition to the cost of the conversion (around 49,000 euros). If a new car is ordered for 2022, the bill will be 127,895 dollars (around 113,500 euros). Of course, every GT500KR comes with membership in the elite Shelby Club, and all GT500KRs are properly registered with Shelby.
The Carroll Shelby Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund will profit from the sale of the first GT500KR constructed on January 29, 2022 at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale (JDRF).
