The new Peugeot 308’s lineup is about to be finalized. Two new variations, the electrified and the unusual Peugeot 308 Cross 2022, will join the small five-door and family currently on the market. A more appealing choice with crossover overtones that, according to one more official piece of information, already has a presentation date.
Peugeot has an exciting year ahead of them. Not only is the French brand getting a facelift of two more than relevant models, but it’s also getting one of its most crucial debuts ever. A one-of-a-kind model in the lineup that is regarded as one of the sportier possibilities.
The Peugeot 308 Cross 2022 will be the first coupe SUV in the Peugeot lineup.
Internally known as “P54,” personnel in charge of the French plant in Mulhouse proudly displayed the first body constructed of the new compact’s third form in the middle of last autumn. For the time being, his name remains a mystery. Although it’s recognized as the 308 Cross, it’s also referred as as the 4008, 408 Coupé, and 308 X.
The Leon firm can consider it an independent model, as it has positioned itself as a competitor to the new Citroen C5 X by sharing the “EMP2 v3” modular platform, so when it comes to names, the first is most likely, as the French brand already pointed out years ago thatFour-digit, two-zero names were intended for specials, a quality that this SUV coupe has.
The Peugeot 308 Cross 2022 will be the first SUV coupe in the series, as well as the most fuel-efficient.
Knowing this phrase already provides the impression that the proportions – slightly over 4.6 meters long – will not be typical of a compact, but rather aim to a higher level, thus the marketing name has undertones of wanting to differentiate from the 308 line.
A model or body that will help to boost sales of the more well-known 3008. According to French sources, the international debut is set for next June, a debut that will open order books after the summer and deliver units by the end of 2022 as a 2023 model.
The SUV coupe will retain the subtle style of the 3008 Facelift down to the center pillars, with a roofline that will descend gently and gradually to the rear with a larger lean angle. A sportier look that reduces back passenger headroom and trunk capacity marginally. This will be a significant distinction from the present small SUV. However, there will be changes in the mechanical plant as well.
The greater rank bestowed to this model will indicate a variety of engines that are both powerful and efficient. And it is that, according to a French source, the SUV coupe will be devoid of all mechanical versions of classic combustion, meaning it will not be available in gasoline or diesel.
Only plug-in hybrids with maximum outputs of 180, 225, and up to 300 horsepower, all three with the e-EAT8 electrified automatic gearbox and, uniquely, the third with all-wheel drive. Of course, Peugeot keeps everything under wraps, but this model is a potential sportier alternative with the abbreviation PSE, so it wouldn’t be shocking if it introduced a fourth PHEV with 360 horsepower.
Look for the crossover between the coupe and the SUV.
Essentially, the as-yet-unnamed 308 Crossover will be based on the same EMP2 platform as the 308 or the Opel Astra. There’s still a lot of speculation about the name: would it be appended to a name like “Crossover” or “RXH”? Is the new one known by its own name, such as 4008?
We’ll have to wait and see. Tracednew’s artist envisions a traditional crossover with a sloping roof, five doors, and an overall extended form. The new design language is more rounded than the 3008 and 5008, and it is more based on the 308.
Plastic planking and saber-tooth daytime running lights should of course be included, and recessed door handles are at least a possibility, but the sibling brand DS has so far provided more options. Furthermore, Ttracednews anticipates a minor increase in height.
Many engine alternatives are conceivable because to the modular design.
Engines for the 308 Crossover are plenty, notably all those that are fitted in the 308 in theory. The variety of options includes diesel and gasoline engines, as well as 180 and 225 hp plug-in hybrid drives. To emphasize its speciality, the crossover should be priced more than the 308 in terms of pricing. As a result, Tracednews anticipates a starting price of roughly 32,000 euros.
Peugeot Crossover lovers may also be interested in the Opel Manta, since the Rüsselsheim-based manufacturer has previously revealed a new Manta. The teaser image hinted at a crossover: the elevated 308 may serve as the foundation for a new Manta version with a little ingenuity.
