Mitsubishi’s new seven-seater Xpander is now available in South Africa, at a starting price of R300,000.
The Xpander is available in one trim line and with one engine, with two transmission options being the main factor that sets apart the two models on offer.
“The interior of the new Xpander might be all MPV, but the exterior screams SUV, so it’s equally well suited to everyday commuting, family road trips, and leisure activities,” said Mitsubishi.
Everything included
The new Mitsubishi Xpander offers a host of features and abilities as standard.
It features an exterior design that is influenced by the company’s “Dynamic Shield Design” technologies, meaning the front fascia was developed to offer as much impact protection as possible – while adding a hint of sportiness with a new black grille.
Dynamic alloy wheels – 15-inch on the manual and 16-inch on the automatic model – add to the design aesthetic, and all-round LED lights with daytime running lights are fitted, too.
The tall body (1,695mm) then provides 205mm of ground clearance, while a short wheelbase assures a 5.2m turning radius – making the Xpander one of the most nimble vehicles in its class.
The interior of the Xpander follows the same all-inclusive strategy as the exterior, with automatic air-conditioning, all-round electric windows, a multifunction steering wheel, and a rear-view camera included across the range.
In addition, passengers will be treated to a Bluetooth-capable infotainment display, a rear overhead cooler, multiple power sockets, and USB ports.
Vehicle safety is taken care off through the fitment of ABS with electronic brake force distribution, an impact-absorbing body structure with side impact bars, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and driver and passenger airbags.
It also scores a 4-star safety rating from the Asean NCAP programme.
Power
The Xpander range is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 77kW and 141Nm, paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.
It sports a 45-litre fuel tank, and achieves a claimed combined fuel consumption of 6.9l/100km for the manual and 7.0l/100km for the automatic.
