Video teases new electric model ‘developed with the UK consumer in mind’
- Set to be revealed this winter
- Similar length to family hatchbacks
- Wraparound tail-lights
A new electric MG model is due to launch in the final few months of 2022. The new hatchback is likely to be called the MG 4, and the brand has previewed the forthcoming model in a new video that gives some clues about its size and styling.
The MG 4 name was hinted at by the web address included in MG’s tweet, signifying that the car will sit between the MG 3 supermini and the MG 5 EV estate. We expect it to be a high-riding hatchback like the Volkswagen ID.3, Kia Soul EV and Citroen e-C4.
The video shows black exterior trim lower down and a slightly higher ride height than something like a Volkswagen Golf. In the clip, we also see 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, black mirror caps and roof panels, as well as wraparound LED tail-light clusters like the ones fitted to the Kia EV6.
A brand new 100% electric vehicle from MG has its UK premiere set in Q4 this year. The vehicle measures 4.300 mm in length and is developed with the UK consumer in mind. Take a sneak peek at this beauty and stay tuned..⚡ https://t.co/ImMlaNDVMf#MGElectricforAll pic.twitter.com/j3sHYN6oS1

Measuring 4.3m long, the new car will be very similar in size to hatchbacks like the Golf and Ford Focus, while it should also mean that MG can utilise the electric powertrain from the ZS EV. In Long Range specification, the ZS EV can manage over 270 miles between charges, or even more in stop-start urban driving.
In terms of technology, the video shows a reversing camera and cameras mounted on the wing mirrors, suggesting that the new car may be available with a 360-degree view for parking, or an extended suite of driver assistance features. A very brief view of the interior shows little, although it’s possible to see a rotary dial that is likely the gear selector.
The MG ZS EV and MG 5 both start from under £30,000. If the MG 4 is priced at a similar amount, it’ll undercut rivals such as the Volkswagen ID.3 and the smaller Peugeot e-208.
